Experience the artistry of dance from around the world – no passport needed. An easy drive over the Coronado Bay Bridge will transport you to distant lands during Nations of San Diego International Festival of Dance (Nations), January 28th at 8:00 p.m., January 29th at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m., and January 30th at 2:00 p.m., at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 650 D Avenue. Now in year 17, Nations offers four public performances showcasing traditional dancers from 16 unique cultures. Artists from Africa, Brazil, India, Ireland, Polynesia, Spain, and more will gift audiences with authentic dances and music rarely seen together in one setting. Acclaimed Korean dancer Hearan Chung makes her San Diego debut this year. While some of the dances tell stories, others embody celebration or evoke pure passion for movement and music. The colors and textures of each culture come alive in whirling skirts, stomping feet, or intricate hand movements. It is a multi-cultural treat for ear and eye.
Nations of San Diego International Dance Festival is produced by Coronado School of the Arts Foundation and supported by grants from the City of Coronado, Target, and individual donors. Tickets cost $15 to $30 with discounts for military, seniors, students, and groups. For tickets and information, visit: www.nationsdancefestival.com.

Comment by Elizabeth Nolan on January 30, 2011 at 8:59am This is a wonderful program; a great opportunity to experience international variety and talent. I especially like the 'extra' of having individual dancers of different nations perform to the same beat sequentially, juxtaposing their unique styles... a great opportunity to compare and contrast the different styles. What are next year's dates?
