My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here. We went for the early bird special menu and it was great. Warm, personal service. It was very special place for our special occasion (leave the little kids at home).
I stopped by this afternoon to "check it out" and got a behind the scenes tour from Executive Chef and owner Lars Sjostrand. I was very impressed by all that I saw. I admit I just love those old houses--they are Coronado's irreplaceable treasures and it's SO nice to see this one so lovingly maintained.

The house and decor are both as charming as the proprietor. One thing that really struck me was the condition of the kitchen. Consider, that it's a circa 120 year old house converted to a restaurant and the quarters are a little tight behind the scenes--yet the kitchen was SPOTLESS. Everything was in it's place and the food being prepped for the evening's feasting looked fresh and enticing. All the staff we met were also friendly and seemed to really care about what they were creating. Besides, when the boss is also the Executive Chef, you've always got your finger on the pulse and you don't have to tolerate slackers. Lars seemed to have a sincere eye for perfection in all things and what we saw on our tour was a reflection of that.

I've not yet had the pleasure of eating there but I'm seriously anxious to try it out now! I owe my wife a nice, romantic night out and this looks to be the next place on my list of "must try's" in Coronado. As "islandgirl" mentioned they have great early bird specials (perfect for a nosh before the show next door at the Playhouse) and Lars was also pointing out the other great deals they offer regularly (Wednesday wine night, etc.).
Like islandgirl, have done anniversary dinner here with my husband. It was a wonderful treat. Good food, nice wine, adult conversation, romantic walk home (isn't that the best living in Coronado--no need to drive home!). Ah....
My husband and I have been going to Chez Loma for dinner for more than 15 years. It's our favorite restaurant on the island. We particularly like the early bird special, which you can now have all day Tuesdays. I have the duck and the gingerbread; he has the boeuf bourguignon and the gingerbread. Concannon Petit Sirah goes with both. We recommend a nice long walk along the ocean boardwalk and Orange afterwards. Or go see a play around the corner afterwards. Highly recommended.
