Night & Day Cafe
847 Orange Avenue
619-435-9776

The only 24-hour restaurant on the island. A tiny place with counter service where you can watch them fry your burger at 2:30am.

Last time I ate there was a few years ago, but it was really greasy. Has it changed?
Any of the locals in Coronado feel the same way I do about "Night&Day Cafe"? I think they should change the name of the business to "MexicanCafe orTacoShop" NOTHING about the Cafe I've known for 33 yrs exists anymore since "Hector the Owner" Sold half the business to someone else 2 do whatever they want 2 the restaurant. Not to mention the new people that work there don't have "that ORIGINAL Nite&Day attitude... I think they Destroyed it! AND LASTLY, they FIRED most of the employees and brought in their own family members to take the positions Night&Day WAS a Coronado relic since the 1920's SHAME ON YOU HECTOR... Mario is probably hurt looking down at what you have done to what he worked so hard for... These are my feelings and I also posted this on my Facebook page and have gotten some positive feedback from some of the other locals who seem to feel the same way.
It's no longer considered "The Greasy Spoon"... more like the Greasy Burrito... I love Mexican food just as much as the next person.. but The Nite&Day Relic was murdered by the new Half/Owners... :( You know, The night my mother found out she was pregnant she went to Night&Day with my father for dinner.. That was in the 1970's... I went there one time since the reform/remodel and I will never go back... :( Makes me sad.

I heard they ripped out the counter and put in more tables..   That is horrible.. that place was pretty much the same for decades.

We live in Coronado and haven't been there in a few years.. since the gourmet coffee thing started up and all the old employees were let go.. Now it's a Mexican food place you say?  UGH

Not a fan of the new changes AT ALL.  Here is my review I left on Yelp.  "We have lived here in Coronado for just over a year now and used to love going to Night and Day. I agree with another previous poster in that sometime in the past month or so there has been a management change and/or a new change in concept. This used to be a neat hole-in-the wall place with decent food at decent prices. Now they have done a little remodeling and have greatly changed the menu. The pancakes at this place used to be massive and decently priced. Now I ordered a pancake for my daughter and it was much smaller and $6.50 for ONE average size pancake. Really?!?!? Forget this. The cooks used to be part of the fun experience. Cooks with great attitudes and constantly socializing with the customers making them feel welcome. Often the cook was telling me what to order...and he was almost always spot on. The staff there now seem to not care about socializing with the customers and with a place as tiny as Night and Day, not socializing with the customers is a bit awkward. Most of the time when we were there if the two ladies were talking at all it was to each other, in Spanish, and when you are just a couple feet away from your customers that is a bit unprofessional. Won't be going here again and I suggest others try Claytons, Stretch's, Danny's, Burger Lounge or anywhere else but here. This place used to be a 4 or 5...now a 1."

I couldn't disagree with all of the other posts more.

I am a fan. The fish tacos are pretty dang good, they serve beer, and they got rid of the horrible night shift cook. Everything is nice and clean, new counter tops, etc. I was pleasantly surpised when I went there for a bite after a Padres game. They still have the old menu, but have added Mexican food to it. The counter is still there, it's just new and not sticky any more. The place had been totally let go, and I don't blame them one bit for getting rid of all the people that had helped run it into the ground. The mexican ladies talked to me, and were friendly and helpful. It was like sitting in the barber shop and having a good conversation with the barber, except with beer and tacos.

I remember going there at 2am back in the day and getting a decent meal. Unfortunately, before the new owners, the cook was so bad that I couldn't get drunk enough to eat there... The cooks being part of the show? Like the meth-head that worked nights? He screwed up eggs and toast! How do you screw up eggs and toast?

Thanks to new owners for cleaning up the place and serving food that is actually good now! They were friendly and talkative, and down right nice. Nite and Day has been transformed from a run-down diner for drunks and degenerates into a place that you can actually get a decent bite from.
