Permalink Reply by Lynnda Shepherd on July 16, 2011 at 1:00pm I heard they ripped out the counter and put in more tables.. That is horrible.. that place was pretty much the same for decades.
We live in Coronado and haven't been there in a few years.. since the gourmet coffee thing started up and all the old employees were let go.. Now it's a Mexican food place you say? UGH

I am a fan. The fish tacos are pretty dang good, they serve beer, and they got rid of the horrible night shift cook. Everything is nice and clean, new counter tops, etc. I was pleasantly surpised when I went there for a bite after a Padres game. They still have the old menu, but have added Mexican food to it. The counter is still there, it's just new and not sticky any more. The place had been totally let go, and I don't blame them one bit for getting rid of all the people that had helped run it into the ground. The mexican ladies talked to me, and were friendly and helpful. It was like sitting in the barber shop and having a good conversation with the barber, except with beer and tacos.
I remember going there at 2am back in the day and getting a decent meal. Unfortunately, before the new owners, the cook was so bad that I couldn't get drunk enough to eat there... The cooks being part of the show? Like the meth-head that worked nights? He screwed up eggs and toast! How do you screw up eggs and toast?
Thanks to new owners for cleaning up the place and serving food that is actually good now! They were friendly and talkative, and down right nice. Nite and Day has been transformed from a run-down diner for drunks and degenerates into a place that you can actually get a decent bite from.
