Tartine Cafe
1106 First Street
619-435-4323

Tartine was created in the fall of 2001 by three local women whose dream was to bring a taste of Europe to the Island Community. The casual cafe is located on Coronado, overlooking the San Diego Bay and skyline.

Tartine embraces the European café philosophy of being able to enjoy a simple cup of coffee to sampling a delicious meal with wine.

Now this is a Coronado experience. Absolutely great food, baked goods and coffee. I love taking some of my girlfriends here and just pretending to be in some bakery in France. It's down at Ferry Landing, so if you are used to hitting the cafes on upper Orange, this is a nice change of pace. Great service too at Tartines.
This is a great, little cafe with lots of class. Super place to sit outside and soak up some fresh, beach air while chatting with the girls. I appreciate the wide variety of food to choose from, as well as the range of prices on the menu. Definitely worth hitting when you're on the ferry side.
We used to go here a lot, but the service was really spotty. Don't go for breakfast on a weekday if you have anything to do afterwards--you never know how long it will take just to put your order in! We used to sit and watch the
"girls" behind the counter chatting it up while 3-4 new parties sat themselves down and waited for service. Everytime we go we say we're never coming back to this place....yet we continue to go back.

That said, the food is good and in the "cafe" style. Dinner menu fluctuates and is very gourmet--but there are great stand-bys: the steak is really good, chicken under a brick is one to try, and the pastas and salads are usually yummy and there is a nice wine list. Most friends describe this as a "chic's restaraunt.

The owners do a good job and many of the evening wait staff are awesome. Went back for breakfast recently and the service was good so maybe things are looking up?
Been going here every Women and Wine Wednesday night for years with my girlfriends, until recently when the owners decided to charge $2.50 for a baugette that was once free to paying customers, and would no longer let us split our check. Which is very sad to say since the food and service was always great. I'm going to miss Steve, Al, and Billy. I just don't see how a good business person would do that to long term patrons. If you're hurting for cash in this tough economy, it's understandable to raise prices here and there on select items, making it virtually undetectable to the unknowing customer. But to blatently tell your customers "no more"..., well, that's just plain insulting.

One good thing from all of this, however. I've been living in Coronado for 10 years now and have yet to visit many of the other fine restaurants on the island. So my girlfriends and I have made it a point to visit a new one each and every Wednesday evening. We're certainly getting a "taste of Coronado" to say the least.

Big Thanks to Tartine Cafe for their generous donation to Coronado Youth Softball. The girls wouldn't be able to play without support from local Businesses like yours. A beautiful restaurant with a menu to match. The chicken curry salad and the flank steak are great. The soups are made fresh daily and the cheesecake is unforgettable.

Thanks,
