"Cops and Sandman" (Add Your Caption)

Joe Ditler captured this photo of the 'Sandman' having a 'conversation' with the Coronado Police. More info on the Sandman can be found here: http://www.ecoronado.com/profiles/blogs/local-spotlight-the-coronado

Coronado's finest probably ticketing him for laying on the grass.

Love the sand man... I think we are lucky to have him around. Visitors think it's great...

Please don't tell me they gave him a ticket.  Cited for sweetness?

Someone should open a bank account for donations to pay for all the tickets he gets for providing us with free art to enjoy.  Also, someone in a position of authority needs to tell the cops to lighten up.

We LOVE his art, we always look for it when we are there, Coronado is fortunate to have such a gifted artist that provides these public displays.

Now maybe the city can appoint him as an unpaid city employee in charge of road / sidewalk / parking lot art ...

Let's make him mayor. At least we know he loves the island. Can you remember a time any other mayor loved the town so so much he or she went out and laid on the grass to prove it? You can tell he has power, even the cops are taking notes about the best way to show their dedication to Coronado.

If the police are bored, why don't they write more speeding tickets on 3rd and 4th and leave the Sandman alone?

I guess old fashioned community policing is a thing of the past. In the old days, we cops would pick this guy up off the ground and take him back to his house. We'd make sure he was safe in bed sleeping it off. I guess it's better now to add to his problems and write him tickets he can't afford and to do it with such gusto that the police department maintains that "No Tolerance" mentality along with a brute force exhibition as is clearly shown in this photograph. It's a sad time when the town of Coronado picks on helpless victims with mental or physical disabilities... I guess time are changing. Too bad Glen Davis, Steve White, Jeff Hutchins, Detective Hall or Don Erbe aren't around, those guys are REAL cops - they acted from the heart, not the badge.

Whenever I see a sandman creation in a misc. open space in Coronado it literally brightens my day!
