i did a little experimenting with some long exposures last night as the last rays of sun were fading. i set up my d3s with two filters..one was a very dark 10 stop filter and the other was a two stop polarizing filter. what would normally be a 1/30 sec exposure now became a 4 minute exposure. the lengthy exposure allows the water to become silky and the clouds become blurred. another benefit: harbor boats and kayaks that pass through the frame "disappear" because they do not remain long enough to be captured. i will post a 9 minute exposure later. i welcome any comments

Comment by Elizabeth Peterson on April 25, 2012 at 8:58pm This is absolutely beautiful..I know nothing about photography, except that I can take a pretty good picture, but this is so special because I can see my former apt. across the bay here. And I'm now in Australia, I realize how much I miss San Diego and my former home, Coronado. Can't wait for my visit in the Autumn...

Thanks Elizabeth...your comment made my day!
