Profile Information

How are you connected to Coronado?
I'm a Coronado local.
What are some things you love about Coronado? Favorite places on the island?
I think the heart and soul of Coronado is Orange Avenue. So much of what we value as citizens of Coronado is right there on Orange Ave. The Median, the history behind the Median, Spreckles Park, the Library, the Norfolk Island Pine, the Crown Jewel itself: The Hotel Del, the View from Orange Ave toward downtown SD, Our Business District, the Median Gardens, the Village Theater, and just the nostalgic feeling one can get driving down Orange Ave. I also love driving down the Strand or Ocean Blvd. Seeing Coronado from the top of the bridge when you are driving into town never gets old. The smell of the ocean early in the morning or late at night. Hearing a distant train whistle when I am trying to fall asleep. The view of Downtown SD from one of our bay front parks. Riding a bike around in the summer. Riding a bike around on the Fourth of July after enjoying the parade. Admiring the beauty of an aircraft carrier from Bayview Park or watching an F-18 cruise over North Beach. In the end, the comfort, safety, history, civility, serenity, and beauty of Coronado is what I will always love about Coronado.

Community Voices: Prop E and Coronado

Posted on June 6, 2014 at 8:08am 0 Comments

One of the things I like about elections in Coronado is finding out the pulse of the community on a given issue. While it is certainly unpleasant to be on the losing side of an election, I will always appreciate the opportunity to gain a greater insight into the wishes of our electorate, and with the defeat of Proposition E, our community is directing our schools to make do with the resources at hand. I continue to have great confidence in our School Board and their administration in guiding…

Community Voices: Yes on Prop E

Posted on April 24, 2014 at 2:30pm 67 Comments

I will be voting Yes on Prop E this June because it is a powerful way for this community to help our public schools in their time of need. Traditionally, our public schools are funded entirely by the State of California on a per pupil basis. Last year, the State of California changed its funding formula, to the detriment of Coronado schools, and will now be funding school districts around the state at a higher rate than our own kids here in Coronado. In the San Diego Unified…

Coronado High School's Academic League (College Bowl) Team on TV This Week

Posted on April 23, 2012 at 10:30am 1 Comment

Coronado High School has a team that plays other high schools in the region and this competition is called "Academic League." This competition is similar to the old "College Bowl" competitions of yore. The two competing teams each get to field five players and are asked questions from the various academic disciplines.

The Coronado High School team won its League this year and advanced to the San Diego Metro Conference playoffs where they went on to win two matches and were…

Don't Forget About Harry Potter This Saturday Morning!

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 7:00am 0 Comments

Just a wizardly reminder that "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" will be playing one time only at 11AM this Saturday, March 31st, at the Village Theater. Professor Snape is expecting you all to be there and you don't want to make him angry.

Michel and I want to know if you're still holding court at Cafe 1134 and when?

Casey,

Actually, we were sort of goofing at your expense as we thought one of your campaign promises was to hold court at 1134 so your citizens would have access. Everytime we walk by we don't see you so Michel opined that you were breaking your campaign promise. I noted that since we only walked by at about 3:15 M-F that there WAS a chance you were there on other days or other times. I told him I'd email you and find out. And, I did. Thanks for getting back to me.

How is the city of Coronado responding to the fact that there are two swine flu cases at the Amphibious Base and two at North Island, a total of four in Coronado. What is the Navy doing to contain the virus?

I just wanted to take a moment and say you did a wonderful job at the Memorial Day Ceremony. It is nice to see you so involved with our community events whether it be a ceremony like the one Monday, or going to talk with the Scouts. Well done Mayor, well done.

Hi Casey,

Looks like there are a lot of events around town on Saturdat, Sept 11. But I would like to invite you to come support Coronado Pop Warner by stopping to catch one of our games. We are playing this Saturday, at the High School games are at 8, 10, noon and 4. We'd love to see you. I can be found at the clothing booth :) Hope you had a peaceful Labor Day.

Hi Mayor Tanaka,

I would like to invite you to attend our upcoming Luau & Longboard Invitational event at Scripps Pier this Aug 21st.

This important event will improve the lives of all of us by finding the cure to many cancers through the Moore Center for cancer research located in La Jolla, CA.

I believe with your clout you can help by reaching out to the surf enthusiast of your community who may have not heard of this event.
