World War II Heroes in Coronado

As a carrier of the San Diego Union and the Evening Tribune newspapers in 1956-7-8, I was lucky enough to have as one of my distinguished customers on my I Avenue paper route Marine General Alphonse De Carre (1892-1977). Gen. De Carre commanded the 2nd Marine Division on Guadalcanal in 1943. The General and Mrs. De Carre lived on the even-numbered side of I Avenue in the 700 block, as I recall. I read Obituary: Coronado's Johnny Downs Jr. 1944-2011; John was another buddy of mine and Sacred Heart School classmate and Little League teammate and great guy..

As a carrier of the San Diego Union and the Evening Tribune newspapers in 1956-7-8, I was lucky enough to have as one of my distinguished customers on my I Avenue paper route Marine General Alphonse De Carre (1892-1977).
