Coronado...what a great place to live!

Profile Information

How are you connected to Coronado?
I'm a Coronado local.
What are some things you love about Coronado? Favorite places on the island?
Coronado Island still blows my mind that you can walk everywhere and get there within 5-10 minutes. Some of my favorite things include: beaches, parks, library, community center, theatre, tennis courts, mainstreet and bumping into friends and neighbors everywhere I go. My family is safe here in Coronado and it feels like a big playground. I love Coronado!

SoCAL BOYS: No. 7 La Costa Canyon Downs No. 2 Coronado

Senior middie Andrew Hayden scored a game-high three goals to lead No. 7 La Costa Canyon to an 8-5 victory over No. 2 Coronado in a CIF-San Diego Section game Wednesday night.

Senior attackman Timmy Andrews and sophomore attackman Brendan Gaughan each added a co-team-high three points to help the Mavericks (3-0) win their third straight to start the season and avenge last year’s loss to Coronado in the San Diego Section championship game.

Andrews finished with two goals and one… Continue

Command at Sea by J. F. Kelly, Jr. (031710)

A commentary by J. F. Kelly, Jr.

The commanding officer of a Navy ship exercises a truly unique degree of power, authority and responsibility. No other position is quite comparable. The remoteness, confines and potential hazards of shipboard life necessitate an unparalleled degree of autonomy. With that autonomy, necessarily comes unrelenting responsibility, not only for his own performance, but for the performance and safety of his ship and cr… Continue

Study points SEAL recruiters toward athletes

If a young man has spent countless hours bobbing in a pool during water polo matches, he’s more likely to survive the butt-kicking training required to become a Navy SEAL.

Same goes if he rock climbs or mountain bikes. And believe it or not, if he plays chess, his odds of passing triple.

Those are some findings from a nearly $500,000 Gallup study commissioned by the Navy. The Coronado-based Naval Special Warfare Recruiting Directorate is trying to increase its ranks — a goal th… Continue

Dessert-wise, I have to say Nado-Gelato is one of my favorites. It's the only place to go for authentic italian ice cream, and the entire staff is incredibly friendly.

One of the most difficult things about going out for dessert is that there's almost always someone who "just wants some coffee." Nado Gelato also serves coffee, which is roasted right here in Coronado as well. (Blue Bridge Coffee) They really know their way around the espresso machine, so you can enjoy an incredible latte with or without your cup of gelato.

Thanks for the welcome -- great looking publication! Sally and I are walking across the USA again in 2010 to promote healthy living and eCoronado will make it possible for us to stay connected to "home" while on the road. This is a wonderful addition to the community.

We'd be happy to keep eCoronado posted with blog entries ... and photos and movies if you'd like. Just let us know what works well for you. Plenty of time to figure out details -- we begin on 3/23/10 (National Diabetes Awareness Day) and end in Boston on 11/12/10 (World Diabetes Day).
