How are you connected to Coronado?
I'm a Coronado local.
What are some things you love about Coronado? Favorite places on the island?
Coronado Island still blows my mind every time I cross the bridge and realize that this is my home. Some of my favorite things include: beaches, parks, library, community center, theatre, tennis courts, mainstreet and bumping into friends and neighbors everywhere I go. My family is safe here in Coronado and it feels like a big playground - for adults and kids alike. I truly love Coronado and could not image every living anywhere else!

Field Trip! Coronado Third Graders Visit CHA Museum of History and Art & the Hotel del Coronado (photos)

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 5:00pm 0 Comments

I took a short break from eCoronado.com to help chaperone my daughter's third grade class on a field trip.  They visited the Coronado Historical Association Museum of History and Art and the Hotel del Coronado.  The students were on excellent behavior and I was impressed with their attention in the museum and their very thoughtful questions when the toured the Del.  Of course, the…

Southern California Close-Ups: San Diego, Coronado and La Jolla

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 4:02pm 0 Comments

San Diego could be improved. If the county had 75 miles of beaches instead of 70. If the Padres won a World Series or the Chargers won a Super Bowl. Or if the municipal sloganeers dropped "America's finest city" in favor of "You stay classy, San Diego."

But this is nit-picking. Besides its most obvious tourist attractions — the beaches, the zoo and Old Town — San Diego's downtown has interesting edges, several old neighborhoods are showing new vigor, and everybody seems to be brewing…

An eCoronado.com member recently sent this to us:

If my math is correct, today is the due date for any babies that were conceived last year during the county-wide blackout.   :o)

We did the math and she's right.  It was about 9 months…

Obituary: Connor Carvajal

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 2:38pm 0 Comments

Connor Carvajal of Coronado, CA was granted his angel wings on May 24, 2012 at the tender age of 6, following a 3 year battle with the childhood cancer, Neuroblastoma. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Though Connor’s life was too short, he helped us understand that the quality of life far exceeds the quantity of time in which you live it. Connor’s “get up and go” attitude would motivate anyone. Connor was a true warrior and fought long…

Dessert-wise, I have to say Nado-Gelato is one of my favorites. It's the only place to go for authentic italian ice cream, and the entire staff is incredibly friendly.

One of the most difficult things about going out for dessert is that there's almost always someone who "just wants some coffee." Nado Gelato also serves coffee, which is roasted right here in Coronado as well. (Blue Bridge Coffee) They really know their way around the espresso machine, so you can enjoy an incredible latte with or without your cup of gelato.

Thanks for the welcome -- great looking publication! Sally and I are walking across the USA again in 2010 to promote healthy living and eCoronado will make it possible for us to stay connected to "home" while on the road. This is a wonderful addition to the community.

We'd be happy to keep eCoronado posted with blog entries ... and photos and movies if you'd like. Just let us know what works well for you. Plenty of time to figure out details -- we begin on 3/23/10 (National Diabetes Awareness Day) and end in Boston on 11/12/10 (World Diabetes Day).
