How are you connected to Coronado?
I'm a Coronado local.
What are some things you love about Coronado? Favorite places on the island?
Coronado Island still blows my mind every time I cross the bridge and realize that this is my home. Some of my favorite things include: beaches, parks, library, community center, theatre, tennis courts, mainstreet and bumping into friends and neighbors everywhere I go. My family is safe here in Coronado and it feels like a big playground - for adults and kids alike. I truly love Coronado and could not image every living anywhere else!

Bridge to Bridge: Pair plans to paddle from San Francisco to Coronado

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 11:17am 1 Comment

When the going gets tough, stand-up paddleboarders and extreme athletes Clay Walking Eagle and Tim Warner will be past thinking about the miles of ocean that lie ahead, the inconsistent, choppy waters of March, the sore arms, the bright sun, or the extreme fatigue.

They'll be thinking of somewhere else.

Africa, maybe. A small village, perhaps, where a well of cool, clean drinking water…

Naval Base Coronado's Green Energy Initiative

Posted on February 11, 2012 at 3:38pm 1 Comment

The Navy is continuing its progress in going green aboard Naval Base Coronado with construction of 15 solar panels along the bayfront scheduled for completion in late February.

The solar panels will produce approximately 400,000 kilowatts per year, saving the Navy approximately $500,000 a year in power costs.

"As part of the Navy's energy initiative we constructed 15 solar panels, called solar trees, that will rotate with the sun throughout the day," said Lt. j.g. Brett Sauers,…

Dessert-wise, I have to say Nado-Gelato is one of my favorites. It's the only place to go for authentic italian ice cream, and the entire staff is incredibly friendly.

One of the most difficult things about going out for dessert is that there's almost always someone who "just wants some coffee." Nado Gelato also serves coffee, which is roasted right here in Coronado as well. (Blue Bridge Coffee) They really know their way around the espresso machine, so you can enjoy an incredible latte with or without your cup of gelato.

Thanks for the welcome -- great looking publication! Sally and I are walking across the USA again in 2010 to promote healthy living and eCoronado will make it possible for us to stay connected to "home" while on the road. This is a wonderful addition to the community.

We'd be happy to keep eCoronado posted with blog entries ... and photos and movies if you'd like. Just let us know what works well for you. Plenty of time to figure out details -- we begin on 3/23/10 (National Diabetes Awareness Day) and end in Boston on 11/12/10 (World Diabetes Day).
