Coronado...Paradise Found!

Profile Information

How are you connected to Coronado?
I'm a Coronado local.
What are some things you love about Coronado? Favorite places on the island?
Coronado Island still blows my mind every time I cross the bridge and realize that this is my home. Some of my favorite things include: beaches, parks, library, community center, theatre, tennis courts, mainstreet and bumping into friends and neighbors everywhere I go. My family is safe here in Coronado and it feels like a big playground - for adults and kids alike. I truly love Coronado and could not image every living anywhere else!

Delux Dogs to Close August 29th

Posted on August 28, 2015 at 11:30am 0 Comments

Due to the rising operating costs, Delux Dogs will be closing their doors for good this Saturday, August 29th.  They opened at 943 Orange Avenue back in April of 2012 and have served up delicious dogs for over three years.  It is not known at this time who the next tenant will be.

Be sure to stop in one more time before they close.  Yes, Frankie the HUGE HOT DOG is for sale - inquire within for…

Community Voices: Vehemently Opposed to Bike Path on Coronado Beach

Posted on August 26, 2015 at 1:00pm 9 Comments

Dear Mayor Tanaka and City Council Members:

Coronado beach has consistently been voted the top beach in the United States and is our prime jewel.  This is the first time in the last sixty years that I have lived in Coronado that I have ever communicated my displeasure on any political matter, which should send a signal to all of you that I feel very strongly about protecting our beach ---- and so do all of my friends. As a long time resident, I feel…

Community Voices: Save Our Beach Yard Signs

Posted on August 26, 2015 at 12:30pm 11 Comments

The Save Our Beach Committee has been formed to defeat the proposed bike path that could be constructed on our beach.   In order to raise awareness in our community about the proposed bike path, the Committee has purchased yard signs.

Last Friday, we distributed yard signs to fellow Coronadans who are opposed to the bike path.  By
Saturday morning, we ran out of yard signs, but will have more…

Historical Moments from Coronado: 1880-1890

Posted on August 26, 2015 at 11:00am 0 Comments

1880-1890

In the 1880s there was a boom of opportunity and growth for San Diego. The California Southern Railroad connected San Diego to the East Coast.  Within a week products (honey, oranges, lemon, butter, and salt) could reach the West Coast.

Two gentlemen who came west about this time were entrepreneurs looking for opportunities for building cities, infrastructure and making money. Elisha Babcock, a retired railroad executive from…

Dessert-wise, I have to say Nado-Gelato is one of my favorites. It's the only place to go for authentic italian ice cream, and the entire staff is incredibly friendly.

One of the most difficult things about going out for dessert is that there's almost always someone who "just wants some coffee." Nado Gelato also serves coffee, which is roasted right here in Coronado as well. (Blue Bridge Coffee) They really know their way around the espresso machine, so you can enjoy an incredible latte with or without your cup of gelato.

Thanks for the welcome -- great looking publication! Sally and I are walking across the USA again in 2010 to promote healthy living and eCoronado will make it possible for us to stay connected to "home" while on the road. This is a wonderful addition to the community.

We'd be happy to keep eCoronado posted with blog entries ... and photos and movies if you'd like. Just let us know what works well for you. Plenty of time to figure out details -- we begin on 3/23/10 (National Diabetes Awareness Day) and end in Boston on 11/12/10 (World Diabetes Day).
