Trying to decide what to serve a group of Newfoundland dog owners, handlers, judges, and club members at our Regional Specialty Show is no easy task. February is typically cold and rainy weather; thankfully, the show is held indoors. This will be our second year hosting the ringside luncheon. Last year, everyone seemed to appreciate having the choice between a comforting, hot bowl of Barefoot Contessa's Chicken Pot Pie, and Bon Appetit's Italian Sausage Tortellini Soup...

SAN DIEGO—The Navy says a 36-year-old sailor from San Diego was killed in an electrical accident aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.
In a statement released Saturday, the Navy says Electrician's Mate Chief John G. Conyers suffered severe electrical shock while conducting routine work as the ship underwent repairs at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego Bay.
Conyers was taken by ambulance to Sharp Coronado Hospital, where he was pronounced dead Friday… Continue

Community Essay by Councilwoman Barbara Denny
As The San Diego Union-Tribune has reported, the commuter ferry service between San Diego’s Broadway Pier and North Island Naval Air Station has been discontinued by military command. I support this decision because the security of the men and women who put themselves in harm’s way for us, and those who support them, is crucial.
But commuter ferry service from Broadway Pier to Coronado’s Ferry Landing remains… Continue

I needed to get a haircut today and get one for my 4 year old son. Instead of going to the usual barber shop on Orange and 10th, we decided to bike down to Coronado Barbers (near Coronado Ferry Landing). This was a great decision since they had plenty of toys, kids movies playing and a wonderful atmosphere to keep my son occupied. Plus, they gave a great haircut. Continue

CORONADO — The final language in a ballot measure that would allow voters to weigh in on whether a tunnel should be built through Coronado to help alleviate traffic has been approved by the City Council.
On Tuesday, council members also voted unanimously to place the advisory measure on the June 8 ballot.
The language will read: “Do you support the city continuing to use and seek federal, state and local funding to complete the study of long-term traffic-relief options,… Continue

CORONADO — Coronado is wrestling with what to do about a badly damaged terrazzo in front of the 1947 Village Theater on Orange Avenue, which is slated for a major renovation this summer.
City staff members have recommended that a new terrazzo — polished flooring usually made of marble or stone chips set in mortar — be installed instead of repairing the old one. But preservationists say that if the terrazzo is removed, Coronado will lose a bit of its character and… Continue

Hey it's James your at&t dealer here in Coronado. We have done our grand opening, our ribbon cutting and been featured on eCoronado.com. These are all amazing things, but I was wondering if any other business owners out there know any better strategies to get our name out there. It seems the community still doesn't know we are here.
So if anyone has some tips that would be constructive, please let us know how we can improve the islands experience in finding their needs of… Continue

CORONADO — A trash truck clipped an overhead power line in Coronado Wednesday morning, knocking out power to about 21 customers, a utility spokeswoman said.
The outage was reported on C Avenue near 10th Street around 9:30 a.m., said San Diego Gas & Electric Co. spokeswoman Allison Zaragoza. The truck hit a secondary wire that carries power from the
power pole to the customer, Zaragoza said.

The tunnel issue is not a 3rd or 4th street issue - it is a Coronado
issue. When we have our main arteries clogged and bottlenecked due to a
huge requirement of traffic flow from one area of the island, it
affects all of us insidiously in so many ways. The speed alone of
vehicles that rev up their cars on the highway 75 (on their way to work)
is so deadly for pedestrians and bikes, etc; people who are in traffic
only have urgency on their minds and loose their… Continue
