Dr. Seuss Sculpture Garden is Open (Hotel del Coronado)

The Chase Group, publisher for the art of Dr. Seuss, will unveil the collection on The Del’s Windsor Lawn on Saturday, April 25. It will remain open for public viewing through May 20, before moving to prominent locations around the world.

SoCAL GIRLS: No. 12 Coronado Edges Cathedral Catholic, 7-6

Three players scored a co-team-high two goals to lead No. 12 Coronado to a 7-6 victory over Cathedral Catholic in a CIF-San Diego Section game Friday afternoon.

Coronado Winning Lottery Ticket Still Unclaimed (Over $200,000)

A winning Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $211,387, sold two months ago on Coronado at a Coronado liquor store, is still unclaimed. The winning numbers were 1, 27, 28, 35 and 40, and the Mega number was 6. The ticket was purchased for the Feb. 24 drawing at Avenue Liquor, 878 Orange Ave.

According to the California Lottery, winners have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize. Tick...tick...tick.

Tunnel Waste

Personally, think the tunnel project is a waste of time and money. Admit that I am not the expert on such a project, but like the airport concept in South Bay, believe way too much energy is being expended on the topic. Sometimes, someone just needs to stand up and say, "this is not a good use of time". Time, after all, is the one thing that we never get back and should be valued with more regard.

Tolls on the Bridge

Coronado has been receiving a lot of media coverage about the possibility of reinstating tolls. There have been reports about possible "$10 Tolls" and many people have contacted me with their concerns about any tolls and/or a tunnel project.



We had a City Council meeting today where we accepted a report that explained how much money new tolls could raise for a new traffic solution like a tunnel. The report stated that $3-$5 worth of tolls could fund between $300-$500 million toward a… Continue

Coronado council discusses bridge-toll study

Coronado Mayor Casey Tanaka said today that any possible toll on the San Diego-Coronado Bridge should consider carpool incentives, be collected only on one side and not exceed $5 roundtrip.



Those were some of the concerns Tanaka shared at a council meeting after a recently completed study about possibly reinstituting bridge tolls.



The tolls would help fund traffic projects, including a proposed tunnel, to ease traffic congestion.

Pomona Roundabout

The roundabout has been a terrific addition to Coronado. It gives a small town feel and will be very attractive once it's finished. I would like to see a garden in the center much like the area around city hall and perhaps some kind of statute or plaque in recognition of the officials instrumental to it's implementation and success.

Bridge tolls may pave way to ease traffic woes

Coronado officials are considering a San Diego-Coronado Bridge toll ranging from $3 to $10 per roundtrip to help pay for a proposed tunnel or other projects to ease traffic congestion in the city.



In February, Coronado officials began publicly discussing the idea of a toll to help fund projects to alleviate the city's growing traffic problem. A proposed one-mile tunnel from the bridge to North Island Naval Air Station is one option being studied.

Coronado Officials Mull $10 Roundtrip Bridge Toll

SAN DIEGO -- Coronado officials looking to raise money for a proposed tunnel and other projects aimed at easing traffic congestion are considering charging a toll that could take the cost of a round trip across the San Diego-Coronado Bridge to $10.

Coronado plans to test city's warning system (Tues 10am)

CORONADO — Coronado Fire Department officials are alerting residents and visitors that they will run tests of the city's emergency warning system tomorrow morning.



Three sirens are installed around the city – at the main fire station on Sixth Avenue, at Glorietta Bay Park and at the Coronado Cays Fire Station – and will sound at 10 a.m. for up to three minutes.

Navy commissions destroyer honoring Coronado's Stockdale

PORT HUENEME, Calif. — The U.S. Navy commissioned its newest guided-missile destroyer Saturday in a ceremony honoring Coronado's own Vice Adm. James Stockdale, the ship's namesake.
