Tar balls litter California beach

Mysterious sticky black tar balls showed up on a Southern California beach this past weekend, enough to fill a 55-gallon drum, officials say.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the tar is not dangerous but says anyone coming across it while strolling on Coronado's shore is advised not to touch it, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Tuesday.

The material was first noticed Saturday by a city lifeguard and 20 National Response Corp. workers had collected about 55 gallons of it by… Continue

The Coronado Experience

I moved to Coronado in 2000. Although I claim to be a local, I think that one can only be called a local once one has lived here 10 years. That is not an official time frame, but one I set as a goal for myself.

Anyway, my Coronado experience has been everything I expected of Coronado. Want to write more, but have to go.

Still Basking in the Glow by J. F. Kelly, Jr.

A commentary by J. F. Kelly, Jr.

President Barack Obama continues to enjoy high levels of domestic and foreign approval. About two-thirds of Americans have a favorable opinion of him, high marks under any circumstances, given the polarization of Americans, and extraordinary, considering the decrepit state of the American and world economies. It is all the more remarkable in view of the fact that nearly one in ten Americans is unemployed with more almost certain to… Continue

It also got me thinking about all the wonderful day-trippers and over-nighters that will make their way over to our special island in search of a relaxing and fun-filled adventure on Coronado. Whether you come for the day, or stay a month, there is plenty to see and do here in "crown town".
