Union Tribune Editorial Says: ‘No’ on Proposition H

It is hard to imagine that this town of 20,000 people on an almost-island, with its expansive beaches, marinas, 22 public parks and one of the most famous hotels in the country, could have any of the urban aggravations of its neighbor cities across San Diego Bay. Until you try to get to or from Coronado during the morning or afternoon commutes.

The San Diego-Coronado Bridge, designed to accommodate 30,000 daily trips, now carries about 85,000 vehicles most weekdays and that is… Continue

California Geological Survey updates its fault map

The new map reveals that the area in and around Coronado Island is more seismically active than scientists once believed. But the map has limitations. For example, scientists don’t know the location of all of California’s “blind thrust” faults, which produce quakes that don’t break the Earth’s surface. The magnitude 6.7 earthquake that occurred in Northridge in 1994 occurred on a blind thrust fault. The shaker killed more than 70 people and caused about $20 billion in damage.

Mrs. Louise Beasley Galpin will be remembered!

I was just informed by Susan Galpin of her mom's passing away (see message below). I befriended Mrs. Louise Beasley Galpin only two years ago, but we hit it off so well! We had lots in common to talk about - she entered and volunteered in the Coronado Flower Show in the mid-1930's - she even saved and treasured her Red ribbon that she won, in Bottle Arrangement and was very proud to share it with me (I have attached her certificate signed by Mrs. Armand Jessop to this blog). Louise was a native… Continue

Thank you, President Obama, for your strong leadership in standing by and upholding our constitution by declaring the Arizona anti-illegal immigration law "misguided".

Standing Up to Washington by J. F. Kelly, Jr.

A commentary by J. F. Kelly, Jr.

Everyone knows that border security in this country is a joke. The southern border is a giant portal through which drug and human smugglers move their illegal cargo almost at will. These operations have become profitable business for Mexican criminals and the Mexican government is unwilling to stop them. So, for that matter, is Washington.

Our federal government simply hasn’t the will to do what is… Continue

Proposed Coronado Tunnel Could Be Terrorist Target

CORONADO, Calif. -- Two retired U.S. Navy admirals said on Monday they are concerned that the proposed tunnel under Coronado Island, if completed, could be a target for a terrorist attack.
