Rhetoric heats up on Coronado tunnel issue

CORONADO — Coronado’s Proposition H on the June primary ballot is expected to send a crucial message to city leaders — either voters are tired of traffic in their town, or voters are tired with talk of a tunnel to help reduce traffic congestion.

Proponents of the measure asking voters whether they want Coronado to continue studying solutions to congestion — solutions that could include a tunnel — say something must be done for those who have become rush-hour prisoners in their… Continue

Man with cerebral palsy plans to scale El Capitan

CORONADO — Stephen Wampler can’t walk, but if all goes according to plan the 41-year-old Coronado resident will become the first person with cerebral palsy to scale the 3,000-foot El Capitan granite monolith at Yosemite National Park.

His climb is set for the last week of summer.

“My first thought was, ‘That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard,’ ” said Wampler’s wife, Elizabeth. “But I know him. He wouldn’t say it if he didn’t mean it.”

Wampler said his desire was… Continue

Watering of the Lawn Bowling Green?

I have been asked recently, "why are we watering the artificial turf of the lawn bowling green?"

The lawn bowling green's artificial turf works in concert with sand, which gives the green a solid smooth surface for bowlers to play on. Watering of this artificial green keeps the sand compacted and the green level and firm. While it might seem strange to water fake grass, this watering keeps our community's investment/asset in prime shape and ready for action!

Coronado attack puts Scripps Ranch in hole

CORONADO — Coronado High girls lacrosse coach Jessica Battle had a straightforward message for her team before Tuesday night’s San Diego Section semifinal game against Scripps Ranch: Just relax and play the game — with playoff intensity.

Did they ever. Keyed by a balanced offense and a scoring burst in each half, the Islanders defeated the Falcons 12-6 to advance to the title game against Torrey Pines at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rancho Bernardo. It was Coronado’s third straight win over… Continue
