As Jeff Stock steered his 20-foot Sea Fox under the Coronado Bridge, seeing the concrete pilings stirred an old San Diego Bay fishing memory in me.
It was about 30 years ago that I was introduced to bay fishing by a legendary angler, Jim Trelikes, the late owner of Lakeside Sporting Goods. I remembered us tying up to those pilings and casting plastic grubs into them, and having bass hit them as they were sinking. It was incredible fishing, and not just there, but also on drifts over…

The Monday after Thanksgiving is known as CyberMonday. This is when everyone goes back to work after a fun filled weekend and can't quite get into the mood to start working again. As Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, CyberMonday is the biggest online shopping day of the year. I did quite a lot of shopping last year and was amazed by the deals. You can usually find the same bargains if not better from Friday's deals, plus free shipping from most sites. The big advantage I…

This blog post was sent in by Len Kaine of the Golden Rule Society.
Here’s a heartwarming event from this morning… Mr. Peter Tegel, a Senior Advisor to our Golden Rule Society was driving across the bridge from San Diego to Coronado. Pete noticed a car parked mid-span in the center lane, of the bridge. He then saw a man hanging on the outside of the bridge railing, preparing to jump. Cars were passing by but Pete chose to stop. He jumped out and ran to the man. He grabbed him…

CORONADO — The official number of historic homes in Coronado has increased by nearly 25 percent.
After years of complaints that Coronado was being unreasonably restrictive in designating homes as historic under the state’s Mills Act, the City Council last week agreed to grant tax breaks to eight structures in exchange for promises from property owners to maintain them in historic condition.
There are now 41 Mills Act homes in the city.
When it started offering…

After months in her sick bed, the Coronado Historical Association’s Model T Laundry truck is, once again, all dressed up and ready to party around Coronado.
Because of her couch potato years interrupted by an occasional long, hot parade, her little four banger motor simply seized up. The T is designed to share an oil pan between the motor and transmission. What hurts one affects the other. When both the units were opened for inspection we…

Happy Early Thanksgiving to everyone in Coronado and on eCoronado!!! We all have so much to be thankful for, and the holidays are all about spending time with loved ones, and keeping those we cannot be with in person in our hearts. The holidays are hitting full force here on Oahu, and each winter holiday here almost always brings insane waves and sunshine. Being a native San Diegan, I am accustomed to feeling some sort of sun in the winter months so this is my idea of holiday weather. The next…
