Historic Coronado Home Saved From Demolition

Home Was Built By Architect Homer Delawie In 1960s

Coronado Ferry to San Diego (Tickets, Times, Information)

One of the best ways to get from Coronado to Downtown San Diego is to take the Coronado Ferry.  You can buy tickets from an automated machine on the Ferry Landing pier.

 

As of January 3, 2011, adult tickets are $4.25 each way and children under 3 are free.  Bikes are allowed at no extra cost.

Navy bomb experts head for a final mission in Iraq

CORONADO ---- Two dozen Navy bomb experts departed from North Island Naval Air Station on Tuesday to assume responsibility for one of the most dangerous jobs remaining for U.S. military personnel in Iraq: detecting and defusing improvised explosive devices.

Coronado Taste of Oils Opens at 954 Orange Avenue

A new business has opened on Orange Avenue (next door to Villa Nueva).  Coronado Taste of Oils sells olive oils and aged vinegars and is owned by Roberta Korte.  They have a tasting room of 40 different organic olive oils and 20 different organic balsamic vinegars.

Coronado Schools Eyeing Cuts

— The Coronado Unified School District is projecting a $2.4 million deficit in next year’s $26 million budget, not including potential midyear cuts from the state.

 

The district saw a budget shortfall of $2.1 million this year, prompting it to cut $1.5 million in spending through furloughs and class size increases. Adult education was cut in half.

Man's Body Found on Coronado Beach

A man's body was found on a beach at North Island Naval Air Station Wednesday, authorities reported.

 

A U.S. Coast Guard pollution inspector was working in the area when he came across the body about 500 yards away from Zuniga Point Jetty about 8:45 a.m., USCG Petty Officer Henry Dunphy said. The corpse appeared to have washed ashore, according to Dunphy.

Navy Pilots Get Grounded Over Lake Tahoe Stunt

A Navy investigation into a September incident in which two Coronado-based helicopters accidentally touched down in Lake Tahoe, damaging the choppers, ended with

administrative measures against the pilots, possibly ending their flying
