CORONADO — A nonprofit foundation benefiting Coronado schools has been given $3.8 million from the estate of the late Frances Harpst, a local icon known for her civic involvement.
The Coronado Schools Foundation plans to allocate approximately $160,000 of the gift annually to Coronado public schools through a new “legacy account.” An endowment committee will oversee the new spending to ensure “careful stewardship of her gift,” officials said.

IMPERIAL BEACH - Rebecca Hernandez lives in Tijuana just blocks from the beach. Hernandez says since December 23rd, a sewage pipe near her home has been shooting sewage water throughout the neighborhood and into the Pacific Ocean.

Did you hear the helicopters last Friday night? It is believed that 6 people were aboard a boat that landed on Coronado Beach. The incident occured at about 8:30pm January 14th, 2011.
Border patrol agents recovered an empty boat near the Hotel del Coronado that was suspected of being used for smuggling. Even though the beach and streets were searched thoroughly, no suspects were found.
