Before graduating from Coronado High, senior Tommy Grall sought to add to the Islanders’ storied boys water polo history with a section championship.

Grall accomplished his goal in dramatic fashion by scoring his fifth goal of the game at 51 seconds into sudden-death overtime to lift Coronado past defending champion Bishop’s 9-8 in the Division III final at La Jolla High’s Coggan Pool on Saturday night.

CORONADO — Coronado High School students are enjoying $3 million in renovations to their technical education facilities.



The school was awarded a $1.5 million grant for the upgrades, and Coronado Unified School District kicked in another $1.5 million. Early on, doctors told Kyle Runyon’s parents their son wouldn’t be able to play sports.



Runyon played anyway, improving his skills as each year passed. Now a senior at Coronado High, Runyon has committed to play lacrosse for Notre Dame.
