The young woman shot in the head on the steps of the Hotel del Coronado was a looker. The newspapers called her the "Beautiful Stranger," bestowing a timeless nickname on a mysterious lady whose life ebbed out on a stormy November night in 1892.



The rest is informed (or perhaps not-so-informed) speculation.

TEDMED leaving Coronado for D.C.

After three years in Coronado, TEDMED is leaving the San Diego area for Washington, D.C., in 2012, the owners of the annual conference said.

Deutsche Bank to Sell CMBS Bonds - Includes Debt on Hotel del Coronado

FRANKFURT -- Deutsche Bank AG is marketing about $609 million in bonds backed by commercial-mortgage backed securities (CMBSs) in the first offering of its type since sales revived in November 2009.



The issue will be tied to floating-rate mortgages including debt on the iconic 679-room Hotel del Coronado, located on oceanfront property in Coronado adjacent to San Diego, and the Standard Hotel in Manhattan, according to people with knowledge of the offering.

NC Times: Owner of Hotel del Coronado seeks to restructure debt

SAN DIEGO ---- The owner of the landmark Hotel del Coronado is seeking to restructure more than $630 million in debt on the property in yet another sign of growing financial struggles in the hotel industry.

Hotel del Coronado facing loan deadline

Owners of the Hotel del Coronado face a January deadline to retire more than $600 million in debt, but are hoping their lenders will give them time while they await a recovery of the depressed lodging industry.



Like most properties, the Hotel del Coronado has seen revenue decline during the prolonged economic downturn, which has also caused the value of the 757-room hotel to fall since loans were secured just a few years ago.
