"See How They Run" at Lamb's Players Theatre is a Great Night Out

Brendan Farley plays Cliff Winton in his LPT onstage debut and poses here with our daughters.

My family and I had the pleasure of attending the press opening of “See How They Run” at Lamb’s Players Theatre this past weekend. We loved everything about the experience!

This was our first visit to the Lamb’s Players Theatre in Coronado so we had no idea what to expect. Everyone we encountered was very friendly and…

NASNI Police Confrontation on 100 Block of F Avenue

Yesterday afternoon, NASNI police officers detained a community resident reportedly to be a retired senior Naval Officer, in front of his home on the 100 black of F Avenue. Neighbors reported that the man was forcibly taken to the ground by the NASNI officers. After calls were made to the Coronado PD,  3-4 units were dispatched to the scene at which time city officers appeared to join in the mayhem.

A question of jurisdiction: Do NASNI Officers have the authority to make a…

How Elections Shape our Nation's History: Join Dr. Ward McAfee at Coronado Rountable Discussion August 24

Coronado Roundtable’s August 24th Meeting

Historians have long argued about both what caused the American Civil War and when (if ever) that bloody conflict became inevitable. The Coronado Roundtable will feature a talk on this subject by Dr. Ward McAfee at the Coronado Library on August 24th.

Professor McAfee will focus on the importance of the presidential election of 1844; the outcome of which he believes made the Civil War inevitable. After creating the context of that…

Echo Boomers and the Next Generation

Could the three words “Prime Childbearing age” foreshadow the next big up move in the stock market? We’re all familiar with the “Baby Boom” generation and the massive impact they’ve had on society. But, less noticed is their offspring, dubbed the “Echo Boom.” Nearly 80 million strong, “they will be become the next dominant generation of Americans,” according to CBS News.                                            …

A Brief History Lesson from a Visit to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery

Yesterday while showing my granddaughters around Pt Loma and the beautiful Ft Rosecran's National Cemetery, we came upon the resting place of Lt General Edward Craig, USMC. As I searched back through my Marine Corps history lessons of many years ago, I realized that it was 62 years ago this summer that then Brig Gen Eddie Craig and his First Provisional Marine Brigade sailed from San Diego to the Republic of Korea.

They were dispatched at the urgent request of Gen Douglas MacArthur…

Underwater Noise at North Beach?

This is a question that maybe the military community could shed some light on:

Several times while surfing/bodysurfing near Dog Beach I notice rapid percussion in the water. If you are sitting on your surfboard you can feel it like a tapping on the bottom of your board, or if swimming, they can be felt inside your body. Put your head underwater and you can hear it, like distant machine gun fire or jack hammering. Short bursts of 5-10 pops. It doesn't seem like the noise would…

Border Patrol Activity at the Cays

I was walking my dog early in the morning before 5 and four Border Patrol agents jump over the flood wall and asked me if I saw anybody running down my street.  After telling them no, I kept walking then another 4 more Border Patrol agents jumped the flood wall and asked the same question.  Then I was told to go back inside my house.  Few minutes later, Border Patrol car was at our street and handful of their agents were searching my block looking over fences and…

Concert in the Park with Polyester Express and Fusion Cuisine

It's hard to believe we're already into August, with just a handful of our summer concerts in the park remaining. Then what? I'm sure John is eager to start propping and planning for our annual Halloween party with this year's Cowboys & Aliens theme. I can't wait to see how our courtyard is transformed, after watching the production that went into last year's pirate ship. And I need to start thinking of an appropriate menu.…
