Why Limit Happy to an Hour? Happy Hour Bites and Sips Abound in Coronado

Every evening, when I descend the gently curving Coronado Bay Bridge I take in the incredible beauty of the resort town I call home. Everything about it is perfect: the glorious Hotel Del Coronado, pristine beaches, gourmet picnics at summer concerts in the park and early morning walks with our two Newfoundland dogs.  These are just a handful of the reasons why John and I savor life in Coronado.  When we decide to dine casually, we rarely venture back over the bridge.  At least one night…

There's a New Newf in My Soup, Food Photos from Coronado Restaurants, and French Fridays Souffle

It seems I've neglected the blog, and my kitchen, this past week. French Fridays with Dorie is already here again, and I haven't published a post since last week's French Fridays. I happily blame it in part on this attention-sponge, who eats three times a day and is already up to 43 pounds at just 12 weeks. We can't walk into the kitchen without him bouncing up, perking his ears, cocking his head, and…

Il Fornaio's Festa Regionale Menu - La Cucina del Lazio

I'm continually singing praises of Il Fornaio, and here I go again.  This month's Festa Regionale Menu, featuring the food and wine of Lazio, was created by Giuseppe Naccarelli, Vice President of Kitchen Operations.

We missed the Tuesday Night Tasting last month (Lombardia) due to travel, so I was delighted when our monthly invitation arrived for this tasting. Mom filled in as my date this week while John attends an annual convention in Florida.

We…

Nicky Rottens Parking Request Denied by the Planning Commission - Vote of 3-1

UPDATE:  The Planning Commission rejected the Nicky Rottens parking proposal by a vote of 3-1.  Even though it had the support of the Chamber of Commerce and MainStreet, the plan was voted down because the walking distance between the Coronado Hardware parking spaces and Nicky Rottens is more than 200 feet.

In January, the City Council will have the final say regarding this issue.  Stay tuned.

Food: Cruise over to Coronado for Leroy’s farm-to-table friendliness

Every time I drive over the big blue bridge to Coronado, I wonder why I don’t head to the peninsula more often. I realize it’s no hotbed of coolness, but, oh, in this crazy mixed-up world of ours, I feel a nostalgic comfort in the milquetoast-Mayberry innocence of Tent City—I keep expecting to see Ron Howard cruise by on Orange Avenue in a ’58 Impala. Leroy’s Kitchen & Lounge is no edgy addition to the Coronado scene, but it’s cool and friendly and another enthusiastic player in the…

This past Sunday, we spent a leisurely afternoon doing a few of the things we love most - drinking wine, eating incredible food, admiring art, mingling with a fantastic group of people, and taking photographs.
Exclusive Collections Galleries' owners, James and Ruth-Ann Thorn, graciously invited us as guests for An Afternoon at Flemings, featuring artist…

Dining: An All Island Affair at Leroy's in Coronado

After reading Naomi Wise's assessment of Leroy's Kitchen and Lounge in Coronado, I agree that it's just what the island needed. I read my Reader colleague's dining review mere seconds after exiting the new Orange Avenue eatery. I was there to check out their first ever beer dinner, a five-course affair that brought together fellow Islanders, David Spatafore, and Shawn DeWitt. The former is the owner of Leroy's while the latter is the director of brewery operations for Coronado Brewing Company.… Continue

$20 Tavern Review: New Restaurant with Unique Décor & Yummy Burgers

One of Coronado’s newest restaurants, The Tavern, gets an overall “good” in my opinion, with a “great ” expected once the kinks are worked out!

Décor & Atmosphere: Great!

Food: Yummy!

Service: Good

DECOR & ATMOSPHERE

Walking up to The Tavern, on Orange Avenue near the Del, I was pleasantly surprised by many things. The restaurant took full advantage of the perfect weather in Coronado by placing a large,…

$20 review of Leroy’s Kitchen & Lounge – Top Notch Food, Paired with Great Drinks

Disclaimer: This is not REALLY a $20 review of Leroy’s as I decided that I needed a little more $ to review.

When you first walk into Leroy’s, you are greeted by the plates of food being handed to servers by the kitchen. This is your first chance to take a look at what to get! If you take a…

$20 Nicky Rottens Review - Great Grub and Fun Atmosphere

When I first glanced at the Nicky Rottens menu, my interest was piqued by their vegetarian burger selection – not just one veggie burger, but the option to order any of their specialty burgers with a veggie patty (or chicken or turkey) instead of beef. I am always searching for a great vegetarian burger and was anxious to give the new place a try.

My friend and I headed over around 1:30 on Friday, expecting to get in and out quickly. We sure were wrong – the place was…

Photos: Nicky Rottens Coronado at 100 Orange Avenue

A few eCoronado.com members enjoyed a couple very large burgers at Coronado's newest restaurant in town:  Nicky Rottens at 100 Orange Avenue.  No, we did not attempt to eat the 2.5 pound burger - at least, not this time.

We aren't going to post the full review, but rather just a few photos to peak your interest.  We can say that the food and service received high marks and we'll be back to try more from their… Continue
