While Eitan Peled led Coronado with four goals, in the end he made the difference on defense in the Division III boys water polo semifinals.
The Islanders senior had a midpool steal with 40 seconds left, thwarting a bid by La Jolla for a tying shot and enabling Coronado to survive 13-12 after seeing a five-goal lead nearly evaporate in the fourth quarter at the Vikings’ Coggan Pool on Thursday night.
“It was more luck than anything,” said Peled, who earlier had back-to-back…

About 70 California National Guard soldiers finished a yearlong tour in Iraq Thursday, landing in Coronado.
When Sgt. Sahren Salgado stepped off the plane at North Island Naval Air Station, she was wrapped in a hug from her 16-year-old son Mikee. This age-old scene of military homecoming has often been repeated in San Diego during the last decade of war. But the return of the 640th Aviation Support Battalion -- the last aviation support battalion left in Iraq -- also brought the U.S.…

A few dozen U.S.Navy SEALs, led by CIA operatives, took down Osama bin Laden and a former member of the elite military club that trains in Coronado claims to have all the details in his new book.
If you ask the U.S. Special Operations Command, the book and its claims are all a lie.

It may be hard to believe, but the sad, strange case of Rebecca Zahau just got sadder and stranger.
Four months after her body was found hanging from the balcony of boyfriend Jonah Shacknai’s mansion in Coronado — a death that was ruled a suicide by the county Medical Examiner’s Office — Zahau was once again on display. This made-for-the-tabloids circus had pitched its tent on the “Dr. Phil” show Monday, and we were all invited in to gawk.
Like so many things…

The inaugural Carrier Classic on the USS Carl Vinson was a huge success and a magical moment for those involved, attending in person and watching on TV. The biggest concern was the weather and outdoor court conditions, but thankfully, the rain started just after the conclusion of the game. It was a powerful experience to witness this basketball event attended by our veterans, those actively serving, and the President of the United States.
Many thanks to…
