Starbucks Coronado- What do you think?

Hey Neighbors!

Have you noticed a decline in the customer service at our local Starbucks? What happened?

The barista was snotty to me today. So sad... one of my favorite things about our lovely community is that we are all so friendly and courteous to each other.

I love our Starbucks and I have never been disappointed in my service there. They are always friendly and always working to get your drink out in a timely manner. Yes, sometimes it is a little slow, but I have never seen staff just standing around doing nothing and whenever they do make a mistake with my order, tey are always great about correcting it.

I hadn't noticed any recent decline in service or wait time.  After living in Houston, Chicago, and Los Angeles the Statbucks here in Coronado is the most personal and friendly location I have ever been a 'regular' at.  They are slow at times and the line can be almost out the door some mornings, but I always see the baristas working so hard.  I have found that when it is REALLY busy if you order drip decaf or regular coffee they can get your drink ready by the time you reach for your wallet to pay and I don't mind cleaning up the mess other customers have left to help out the baristas.  Many of the baristas know me by name and take a moment to ask me how my day is, how grad school is going, or how the Zumba class I just taught went.  If that slows down the service I am okay with that.  If the service and environment of Starbucks seems unsatisfactory maybe see it as an opportunity to support the local businesses in town.  Cafe 1134 has great coffe, plenty of seating, and they always have a copy of the local paper to read, board games, etc.  Tartine's and the coffee cart at Ferry Landing are great too!

Cafe 1143 and coffee cart at Bay Books.  Both local businesses with great coffee.

Personally, I'm not fond of Clayton's for coffee.  Love Cafe 1134!  The best coffee on the island for a buck(if you bring your own commuter mug) is the Columbian coffee at Boney's Bayside Market.  If you don't bring your own cup I think it is about $1.75.  Just my opinion, but check it out.

I agree that the service is slow, but I've never felt their employees were rude. In the past 6 months, I've noticed poeple sitting in the wings, from what look like corporate employees taking notes and timing the Starbuck employees. I always assumed it was a group looking at the operation and using the Starbucks model for their own buisiness plan. Those people could be there at the request of management for all I know, to assess the operation, identify their weaknesses and take the necessary streps to correct inefficiencies. This is a busy Starbucks located on a very busy street, with 100% walk-in customers and no drive-thru. I think their employees bust their butts shucking and jiving from one section of the store to the next, in most cases without missing a beat. I like the remodel they've done with the new seating arrangements with electrical connections and WiFi.  I personally like our Starbucks, and I appreciate the kids that work there. I also like Claytons coffee and their coffee window. My suggestion to everyone if you run into problems at any of our Coronado establishments, let management know right away. I believe with todays economy they would appreciate knowing their customers are unhappy and appreciate hearing your suggestions.

I recently spent six months living on Coronado....Starbucks was fabulous! The baristas all knew my name and my drink! One barista even named a drink after me because people often saw my drink and said, "Wow, what is that? It looks delicious!" The same barista wrote a little note on my cup expressing how he would miss me when I left and asked me not to leave! I really appreciated how friendly they were and how they often went out of their way to make your experience great! I NEVER saw anyone ever standing around doing nothing! All employees seemed to care about their work environment and could be seen mopping, wiping tables, cleaning bathrooms, stocking supplies etc. This Starbucks has tons of tourists visiting hence the wait might be longer for coffee at times, but any good thing is worth waiting for! If and when I return to Coronado, Starbucks would be the first place I'd visit!

I agree with all the negative comments made.  I go to Starbucks most days when I'm on the East coast, but have stopped going in Coronado.  It is dark, slow, unfriendly and understaffed. I get coffee at the gelato place on C, between 10th and Orange.  Goood coffee, few customers.

Thank you for all the great feedback and suggestions. Fyi... the barista who was snotty to me on Saturday was one I had never seen there before. I have enjoyed our local Starbucks for the past 12 years. I called the store right after I left (with a refund and without my coffee) and spoke to the manager. She did not seem especially concerned. And she called me "honey." A big no-no in my book unless I actually am your honey!

Yes, there is room for improvement with speed of drinks, cleanliness of the seating areas and on occasion, attitude of the "newbies"  I can honestly say I am in Starbucks everyday and have yet to see employees standing around doing nothing.  I have addressed many of the complaints above along with a few other mild ones, offering suggestions to solve such issues with the DM, Josh.  For example, I suggested that perhaps this store warranted hiring an individual to only care for the seating area during peak hours, keeping it clean.  He listens, but doesn't seem to deem them enough of an issue to take action.  Starbucks works on a "corporate model", Coronado should be an exception with the amount of "local regulars" and our many "visitors"each and every day.

I was just telling someone the other day that I need to find another spot for coffee.  Very SLOW...
