Character Counts Even While Exercising....Coronado Fitness Club Sets a Grand Example for Middle Schoolers

Chris and Hattie Foote acquired ownership of the Coronado Fitness Club in September 2011. When they took over, they kept some things the same and changed others. Membership at the club has increased in great numbers. One of the most notable changes is the recently added group exercise room downstairs that hosts everything from yoga to spin, Zumba and TRX. One of the programs they inherited and decided to keep is Islander Sports Foundation’s Strength and Speed for middle school boys.

Strength and Speed participants meet twice a week for an hour with owner and personal trainer Chris as their instructor. They spend about half their time in the gym using the cardio machines and weights and the other half outside at Spreckels Park playing football or some other group activity. Some days in the gym may include TRX, a body weight exercise program where each participant works at his own level. They also learn stretching and most importantly, gym etiquette, responsibility and respect for themselves and others.

As a headline sponsor of the Islander Sports Foundation, CFC has shown they are committed to our youth. Through the Strength and Speed program, they are really making a difference.

Chris says he want the boys to learn to exert maximum effort while also having fun. The class is offered in the fall, winter and spring and some of the boys have attended more than one session. Some of the boys aren’t involved in sports, while others are trying to get in shape for the sport they play. Chris says that it’s not just about exercising, but about building confidence and “emphasizing gym etiquette, proper form, treating others with respect, modeling good behavior and character and demonstrating to children that fitness is for life.”

Strength and Speed participant Jacob shared that he “wanted to get stronger and faster and I’ve done both.” Others said that Chris is really nice. Two of the participants have asked if they can work at Coronado Fitness Club when they are older. That is definitely a positive endorsement of their experience.

The staff at CFC is friendly and professional. All of the instructors are nationally certified and the personal trainers are not sales people, so there’s no pressure. Chris and Hattie believe in good old fashion   customer service. “We care about the community and want people to be healthy,” offered Hattie. Personal Trainer Magic, who has been in the fitness industry for many years shared that “this is the most knowledgeable, professional and enthusiastic staff I’ve ever been a part of.”

If you are interested in seeing what all the buzz is about, drop by the CFC at 875 Orange Avenue or call 619-522-0922. There are no contracts at the Coronado Fitness Center and the monthly rates are extremely reasonable: $59 for all gym access and classes, $49 for just gym access (no classes) and $42 a month for students, military and seniors. You can also take advantage of a free week pass offered to all Coronado residents.

Chris and Hattie Foote and their staff are not only providing a safe and friendly place for adults to exercise but contributing to the future through the Strength and Speed program for middle school boys.
