Coronado Blackout Babies? Anyone Care to Share?

An eCoronado.com member recently sent this to us:

If my math is correct, today is the due date for any babies that were conceived last year during the county-wide blackout.   :o)

We did the math and she's right.  It was about 9 months ago that Coronado was part of a county-wide blackout on September 8th, 2011.  Since the power was out, many people stayed in to enjoy the evening with TV, Internet, etc.

Any members care to share of a blackout baby on the way or perhaps a friend that is having one?

Happy Friday everyone and we hope this post made you smile.

See more photos from the blackout here.

Cool photo!

(Un)Fortunately OUR power was not out since we have a solar photovoltaic system with battery back-up at home and spin our meter backwards during the day (and of course the Fire Station has emergency generators).  Other than the 2.5 hours it took us to get home to the SDSU area from the Cabrillo National Monument that afternoon, we were barely aware there even was a black out!  So . . . all the lights, the internet (DSL over phone lines) and TV (over-the-air) stayed on as normal since those companies also have back-up power.

I feel we missed out on the experience the other four million people shared, but it's just as well: we gave up trying to have kids years ago . . . I mean, not that we've given up "trying" . . . .  ;-)

I remember that day well. I live in La Mesa with my husband and I remember how hot it was and how dark it was.  Unfortunately we had no lights etc or TV and only our one land line phone worked so I just spent time talking with my mother to help pass the time.  Don't have to worry about having kids we're already grandparents and a little to old to start having kids again.

I was freaking out when we lost the power that day as I was running around all day and delaying my shower until the evening!  But the real clincher was the next day was the day the USS Ronald Reagan came home after a 7 month deployment.  I planned a lovely dress, shoes, jewelry but thought after all that time my husband's first sight of me would be greasy in a ball cap!

It was a very boring night. No Television. Sent a lot of emails though. I will never forget how San Diego looked. I live down here by the bay.

Though it was a little unsettling because it was so close to Sept 11, it ended up being a positive thing for our family.  We raided our fridge and so did the neighbors and we went next door for a grilled chicken dinner with salad.  The kids played and rejoiced when they found out that school was cancelled for the next day.  Our entire famlily was able to make the USS Reagan homecoming and welcome home dad!
