GU14 Participate in Kick for Hope - Helping Youth in Africa through Soccer

The GU14 White played in Kick for Hope. The vision of Kick for Hope is to provide youth with an opportunity to play hard and give big for the children of Africa. All tournament proceeds go to children in Africa, whose lives are ravaged by poverty and disease. The GU14 were happy to participate in such a great tourney. They had an awesome weekend of soccer and at the same time helped those in need. Coach Kiko Medina had this to say about the GU14, “We played very well this weekend, but we couldn’t finish our chances. The girls are really starting to understand the new system and they are having fun playing.”

The team tied their first game 0-0 vs Surf Premier. The GU14 dominated possession and had a lot of chances, but unfortunately missed 3 breakaways. The team lost the second game 1-0 vs Surf GU13 Premier. It was an even game, but a mistake out of the back resulted in a scoring opportunity. The girls did win their last game 2-1 vs SD United Premier. It was first time the team had beaten SD United in 2 years. The girls were extremely happy about the win. Both goals were scored by Mary Reilly. Unfortunately the GU14 did not advance to the finals since they needed to win the game vs SD United by 2 goals.

The team will be playing in the Slammers Futbol Classic next. Coach Medina made the following comment on the upcoming tourney, “This will definitely be a challenging tournament and I expect the girls to play well. There is not doubt that they will continue to improve on the new system. If we make it out of bracket, that would be a very good showing for us. My main concern is that we play well and improve on every game we play.”

Way to go Nado GU14 white! And great job in the Slammers' Classic, too! The loss in the semi-final by shootout to RSF Attack was a close one. And although the Attack lost to Surf Premier in the championship, note that the top 3 teams in the Gold Bracket up in Orange County were San Diego teams who play in the Presidio AAA league. Way to "Nado Up!"

Well Soccer Fans, the Nado Select girls under 14 is going to be defending its own turf against arch rivals this weekend. SD United and RSF Attack are coming to participate in our own Crown City Classic. The girls will be especially looking for revenge against the girls from Rancho Santa Fe, and not just because of the recent loss in Irvine. Last Fall, our Nado girls were in a 4-team playoff to qualify for 2 spots in Presidio League's premier bracket--a circuit that includes the current #1 ranked team in the country among other absolutely top-notch teams. The points race was tight with a lot of ties, and going into injury time of the game against RSP, Nado was up by 1. After withstanding 5 minutes of despiration soccer, an astonishingly long extension to the game, RSF scored and went on to gain the entitlement over our broken-hearted girls. So if you want to see a high-quality and hard-fought soccer game, come down to the Cays this Saturday the 31st at 5pm.
