Year after year, Coronado loses more public transportation. This year bus route 904 was completely eliminated on Sundays. Now, the city council has approved to further study the voluntary removal of 6 bus stops along Orange Avenue at 5th, 7th and 9th streets.

If we continue to say nothing, they will continue to consolidate until nothing is left!

Residents, Workers and Visitors please write today to show your support for public transportation in Coronado!

TELL CITY COUNCIL how you value the bus routes 901 and/or 904. Do you use it for Padres games, commuting, theatre, shopping, errands, school, jury duty, out of necessity or just for fun? If you don't use it, do you know a family, friend or neighbor that relies on the bus for mobility and independence?

As a former Coronado resident and now a visitor I am astonished at the short sightedness of Coronado City Council. In an age when people are encouraged to reduce their carbon footprint it would seem illogical to remove any bus stop from Orange when this form of transport is indeed an alternative to people jumping in their cars!! My son and I frequently use the public transport system during our visits to Coronado as do many other tourists (who btw also spend money in town!) and many commuters from IB to Coronado and Coronado to downtown/beyond - I know this because I have been stood shoulder to shoulder with other passengers on crowded 901 during commuter hours when I have picked up the bus on Orange!!! Removing bus stops on Orange, in my humble opinion, will only cause a further and continued loss of revenue - surely the City Council would want to encourage the tourist dollar to stay in Coronado!!!!

I completely agree!!! As a former Coronado resident and now a resident of a very crowded Washington DC- a city with a bus/metro to anywhere- it is illogical for the Council to even consider removing the bus stop from Orange Ave. Let's put it this way: whichever council member votes for the decrease in stops: would lose my vote the next election.

I am a bus rider and I have written to all council members and to city regarding bus stop removal. Said letter was publlised in the Eagle Journal today (8/11). Mayor Tanaka responded with ambiguity and a clear lack of comprehension of the issue at hand, Ovrom made no response, Denney was, as stated, an advocate for public transit. Others simply blow with the winds.... The concept of removing stops to provide parking is mind boggling in this day and age. Coronado continues to amaze me with its shortsighteness and lack of community vision. The city needs to promote alternative transportation not diminish it.

Janet, I just went to get a paper and I loved your letter to the editor I am heading up the "letter campaign" for this issue. I need all the help I can get. We need letters to bdenny@coronado.ca.us! I challenge any council member to rely on public transit for one week. The public service it provides is so valuable. For many of us it is our only option. For others it is a choice. Both should be important to our council On the other hand, there is a lot of planning and timing involved. If I go over the bridge, it is easy for me to go from Horton to Little Italy to Old Town to Fashion Valley and/or to Mission Valley. Multiple Transit options and frequent times that get me there! But in Coronado, it is not very convenient anymore. It should not be this difficult. It is a disservice to the community.

Hi, Denise....in a second letter to Mayor Tanaka I suggested he use the 904 to attend his next council meeting as he lives near to the route. He didn't accept the challenge for my prospsed "lesson in civics and opportunity for personal growth" I suggested that it woudl behnoove him to walk a mile in another person's moccasins. I don't think the mayor is amenable to public transit at all and he clearly doesn't grasp the concept....
