Coronado Village Theatre Celebration Day - September 29th 12-6pm (Open House)

Lance Alspaugh (CEO of Five Star Theatres inc.) sent the below to eCoronado.com and has invited the entire Coronado community to come witness the Groundbreaking Ceremonies on September 29th. We encourage everyone to participate in this open house event and we are very excited that the theatre project is moving forward.

Village Theatres Celebration Day on September 29th. Stop by between 12pm and 6pm:

Unlike the usual Groundbreaking Ceremonies, the day will offer the residents of Coronado and elsewhere the chance to see for the first time the Interior Design Concepts created by renowned designer Joseph Musil for the Village Theatres scheduled to open in March 2011. We will be on hand to meet and greet visitors throughout the day, and our staff from LA will be on tap serving Freshly popped Popcorn and an ice cold soft drink (while they last) on the red carpet! At 3:00 PM Mayor Casey Tanaka is scheduled to appear to launch the official start of renovation of the new Village Theatres.

The event will take place at the theatre location at the corner of 8th and Orange Avenue.

Can't wait to go inside again after all these years! When I worked there, I had to have a box of popcorn before I went to work, LOL!

How absolutely wonderful. I have such great memorys there. I was born and raised in Coronado, so I was very lucky to spend a lot of Saturday afternoons at the 'Village Theater". It's so exciting that another generation gets to enjoy it wants again!!!!

The best coming attraction in Coronado since the end of the nickle ferry ride! Can't wait to have a 'real' movie house uptown!

In the early 1960's when I was working at the Village Theater as a ticket taker... Mr. Jones was the manager then, and he had connection to Hollywood! He hosted a premier of a french type movie (I think),, All of us girls had to wear black uniforms with white aprons and white caps, like french maids... People came down from Los Angeles for it, and it was a lot of fun! We also use to go to downtown San Diego to help count votes for the upcoming Academy Awards, I remember doing this a couple of times..
