Walgreens Submits Design Review Application to City of Coronado

Can we finally put the rumors to rest and expect a Walgreens to open in Coronado? Walgreen Co. has filed an application for Design Review of the Home Federal Building (where Petco once was, at 925 Orange Avenue) for a redesign of the building's exterior. No further information has been provided at this time.

Ugh..another pharmacy :( along with all of you, my Trader Joes dreams have been dashed. Do we really need another pharmacy? Maybe we could add to that a couple more dry cleaners......

Mickey and Donny MacArthur's Dad had his gas station (Texaco) on that corner when I was growing up in the 40's, all the local kids put air in their bicycle tires there. ..the drug store was next to it.  It would seem very strange to see a Walgreen's there.

Yes, Walgreens is a big commercial business. Not like we don't already have any of those in town - unless you don't count Starbucks, Burger King, KFC, Taco Bell, Subway, Rite Aid, Vons, Albertsons. I could go on and on. That being said, I also was hoping for something like Whole Foods or Trader Joes. But it is hypocritical of the city and the citizens to say they don't want any chains/big businesses in Coronado when there are already many. Guess it depends on which business they want - big or not.

I would prefer a small business to take up that space.

When it comes to modifying the exterior, I hope the city council will work to preserve the artwork on the outside (I believe it's a stone mosaic.)

Everyone wants more food stores, how about an Arcade or Lasertag Arena? Or someplace that's entertaining that's not a bar? I remember as a kid, this town can get very boring for kids - sometimes the beach and video games is just not enough. I know we've had arcades fail in the past - I believe it was either from the community shunning the business becuase pool tables back then were associated with 'gambling' or becuase of the notorious Coronado White Boys gang (lol.) I think with the number of kids on this island with wallets filled with cash would attract a business venture targeted towards teens.

in reference to my comment sept. 7 about the MacArthurs gas station being on the corner I was under the impression they were thinking of putting in WALGREEN's by the Coronado Pharmacy at 918 Orange. I will have to familiarize myself with all the changes, obviously things were much different when I grew up there.

I agree with KrIzta and Molly; we need something on this island that we need.

Like, maybe a pet store; there are so many residents on this island who own pets.

What happened to the PetCo that was there anyway?  Did they not get enough business?

We definitely do not need another pharmacy, or candy store.
