Nicky Rottens Parking Request Denied by the Planning Commission - Vote of 3-1

UPDATE:  The Planning Commission rejected the Nicky Rottens parking proposal by a vote of 3-1.  Even though it had the support of the Chamber of Commerce and MainStreet, the plan was voted down because the walking distance between the Coronado Hardware parking spaces and Nicky Rottens is more than 200 feet.

In January, the City Council will have the final say regarding this issue.  Stay tuned.

The Coronado Planning Commission will be meeting December 13th, 2011 at 3pm.  One of the items for discussion is the joint use of Coronado Hardware parking spaces so that Nicky Rottens can expand their dining area by 500 sq. ft.  In order to expand, they need to have an additional parking space per 100 sq. ft.

Gee, I wasn't under the impression that Coronado Hardware had parking space surplus.  Sounds like this could negatively impact business at the local Hardware Store.   Personally ..... I won't go there if parking is going to become a hassle like it is everywhere else on the island. Sad trend if you ask me.

The hardware parking spaces would be used after the hardware store closed.  More details on page 13 of the agenda.  Here is a snippet:

no, the hardware store was there first if rotten wants it let them pay the store for it

more stink from the developers ...

Why is it everyone thinks they are entitled to what isn't theirs?

I imagine that the proposal is the result of an agreement between Nikki Rottens and the hardware store and would result in more tax money for the city and perhaps even JOBS. This might answer the concerns of "misappropriation" of parking spaces.

Seems like Nicky Rottens should have thought about their ability to use the old Laundromat area for dining expansion and it's associated requirement for extra parking before they moved in. I wonder if they figured they'd get into the space and worry about the details afterwards?

Appears to be a fine arrangement as stated, but then maybe they are thinking they'll do the same thing to the hardware store as they did in the first arrangement: get into the space and worry about the details afterwards. Will they change the arrangement for parking later? Muscle their way into full use of that parking? Hum.....

This sounds like the parking spaces behind the offices at 10th and C that are always taken up on nights and weekends by Danny's Pub and Holland's. Even though our spaces are posted, not for public parking, when I try to go down to work on Saturdays I sometimes have to park out on the street as the marked spaces are full of "who knows". The owner of our building has suggested we put up and take down a chain to keep our spaces open to those of us who need them. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a space maked for my office. If Rottens parking would impact the Hardware Store they should be told "NO".

Please do NOT take any spaces from the Hardware store. It doesn't matter what time of day...just leave things alone. Nicky Rottens should deal with what everyone on this island has to deal with at times. Parking can be a problem..that is just the way it is. Sorry Nicky Rottens....such is life.

For those of you complaining that the parking spaces belong to the hardware store, the snippet says that Nicky Rottens is entering into some sort of joint use agreement.  Presumably, this means that Nicky Rottens will pay the hardware store to use the parking spaces.  In addition, the link to the documents from the planning commission agenda specify that Nicky Rottens would only use the spaces when the hardware store is closed.  Sounds like a win-win to me.  The hardware store will get paid for spaces they aren't using and Nicky Rottens gets to expand.

This is NOT ok because living in the alley way behind NICKY ROTTENS i have already been adversly affected by their  resturant chain. Their dumpsters are always blocking the entry way to out back gate and smell and look horrendous ( not to mention bums digging threw THEIR trash for recyclebles !!! ) TWO. Heavier traffic of drunk idiots at night espically on weekends THREE I can ALREADY FORSEE PATRONS MISTAKING MY COMPLEXS PARKING SPACE AS THE HARDWARES BECAUSE ITS RIGHT BEHIND THEIR SPACES ( WE ALREADY HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE HARDAWRE STORE PATRONS ) They shoudl have thought about this problem BEFORE USING THAT SPACE!!!!
