57-Year-Old Coronado Resident Dies After Fall from "La Paloma" Sailboat in San Diego Bay

Summary: The decedent was a 57-year-old, Caucasian male who resided on a sailboat in San Diego Bay. On 07/28/2012, he was sailing on his boat with two friends when he fell overboard. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified via radio of a "man overboard" and a 911 call was placed. When U.S. Naval Security and San Diego Harbor Police located the decedent and extracted him from the water, his death was confirmed without medical intervention. His examination has not yet been scheduled.

The Union Tribune reports:

 — A 57-year-old Coronado man died Saturday afternoon when he fell overboard while sailing his boat on San Diego Bay, authorities said.

Ronald Frank Wood, who lived aboard his 36-foot sailboat, fell from the boat about 4:17 p.m. while sailing with two friends on the La Paloma near the San Diego Naval Base at 32nd Street, authorities said.

Wood’s friends alerted the U.S. Coast Guard via radio, saying “man overboard,” and a 911 call was made, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
