A Brief History Lesson from a Visit to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery

Yesterday while showing my granddaughters around Pt Loma and the beautiful Ft Rosecran's National Cemetery, we came upon the resting place of Lt General Edward Craig, USMC. As I searched back through my Marine Corps history lessons of many years ago, I realized that it was 62 years ago this summer that then Brig Gen Eddie Craig and his First Provisional Marine Brigade sailed from San Diego to the Republic of Korea.

They were dispatched at the urgent request of Gen Douglas MacArthur after it became apparent that the poorly trained, and poorly equipped, occupation troops sent from Japan were unable to stop the onslaught of the battle hardened North Korean invaders and found themselves pushed into a small pocket at the tip of the Korean Penninsula.

I have a question about when ships pass by Rosecrans National Cemetary. I was very fortunate to be on the Ronald Reagan for a tiger cruise in 2011. I was very curiouse about why when the sailors and Marines are on the flight deck there is no mention or salute to the heroes buried just up on the hill to their left as they come in or right as they go out to sea? I believe they should at least acknowledge them in some way.
