Elia Enterprises has teamed up with PATT, Parents and Teachers Together, at Village Elementary to offer foreign language classes after school. Languages offered include Spanish, French, Mandarin Chinese and German. Classes for preschool and kindergarten aged students take place at the ECDC, while classes for first through fifth graders are held at Village. There are also classes Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4 p.m. for private school students.
Lorena Baca, owner of Elia Enterprises and also the Spanish Instructor, makes the learning so enjoyable that my daughter will be participating again this year. The children not only learn the language, both spoken and written, but learn about the culture as well. Perhaps most importantly, they have fun.
According to the Elia website, more than 400 million people speak Spanish in 23 countries, “without counting the million people who use Spanish on a regular basis in the United States. It is a language experiencing a period of major expansion and it is estimated that by the middle of the 21st century, close to 500 million people will be speaking Spanish throughout the world.”
In addition to offering the opportunity to learn a new language, Elia Enterprises has donated $2,000 to Village Elementary and $200 to CMS over the past two years. In addition, the company has given $3,000 as in kind donations through scholarships and discounts to several students at Village, CMS and CHS.
