Kelly Ronimus and eight fellow seniors on the Coronado High girls water polo team are poised for the grand finale of their prep careers, going for the Islanders’ third straight section title.

Led by Ronimus with three goals and four assists, Coronado scored the first 11 goals against Cathedral Catholic en route to an 11-2 victory in the San Diego Section Division II semifinals last night at La Jolla High’s Coggan Pool.

“For nine of us, it’s going to be our last game (together), and we’re so excited,” said Ronimus, who is heading to UCLA. “Our goal is always to play our best game the next game.”

Ahead for the top-seeded Islanders (23-8) is Bishop’s as the teams play in their sixth consecutive final Saturday at the same site. The second-seeded Knights (22-6) advanced with a 12-8 victory over La Jolla behind 12 saves by sophomore goalie Gabby Stone.
