Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling southbound on SR-75 then crossed over into the northbound lanes, across the bike path, through the Fiddlers Cove Marina parking lot, and crashing down the embankment into the San Diego Bay. Coronado Police and Fire Department responded as well as rescue crews from California State Beach Park Rangers. The rescue crew found the only occupant of the vehicle deceased.

Anyone traveling in the area who witnessed the accident is asked to contact the Coronado Police Department at (619) 522-7350.

Update:  The San Diego County medical examiner has identified the driver as Donn Alexander Sterling, 62, of San Diego.  Sterling worked for the Coronado post office and was the only person in the vehicle.  Sources close to the victim shared that he had a heart condition and suffered a heart attack prior to the accident.
