Chicago Symphony Organist Offers Oct. 19 Recital at Christ Church Coronado

Mr. Bruce Barber, organist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will present a recital at 7pm on Friday, October 19th at Christ Church Coronado to benefit the Music Ministry fund of the church.  Mr. Barber’s program will include works by J.S. Bach, Nicolas Clerambault, Charles Tournemire, Dan Locklair, and Gerald Near.  Mr. Barber will also collaborate with Ms. Chrissy Taylor, soprano, in presenting the much-beloved “Pie Jesu” from Gilbert Faure’s “Requiem”.  A reception in Hinde Hall, adjacent to the church, will follow the approximately one hour performance.

Mr. Barber comes to Coronado directly from the Chicago Symphony’s touring performances at Carnegie Hall, New York.  He has been the Symphony’s organist for the past six years, and the Director of Cathedral Music at St. James Cathedral, Chicago, since 2004.  Ms. Taylor is a senior at Coronado High School /Coronado School of the Arts and studies classical voice with Diane Alexander.

A suggested donation of $10 adult, $5 youth will be welcomed at the door. Mr. Barber is generously donating his time, talent and travel expenses in order that all contributions received benefit Christ Church’s Music Ministry fund.  Christ Church is located at the corner of 9th Street and C Avenue in Coronado.  For additional information, please call the church office at (619) 435-4561.
