Coronado High School (CHS) students and faculty, members of Coronado Schools Foundation (CSF), and the public gathered today in CHS's quad to reveal the long-awaited donor recognition mosaic project, "River of Giving".
The mosaic sculpture was designed and created by the students of Coronado High's art department, and was facilitated by mosaicist Kirstin Green, art teacher Laura Hill, and ceramics teacher Eric Rempe. The project was approved by the CSF Board in 2010, and was funded in part by a generous $3.8 million legacy gift to CSF by Frances Goodrich Harpst last year. Additionally, $25,000 in donated services aided the production of the mosaic.
CSF is a nonprofit organization that raises funds to directly benefit the Coronado Unified School District. Donations pay for salaries, equipment, and supplies, and continue to make valuable academic and technology programs available at Coronado schools. With the state's budget crisis continuing to affect educational funding, the CSF and its donors are unquestionably important. This mosaic serves as a tribute to these generous donors, as well as CSF's significant stakeholders, and past presidents and executive directors. Individuals who have donated $5,000 or more and businesses who have donated $10,000 or more are listed on the mosaic to commemorate their generosity and importance to the Foundation. Names of new donors will be added annually to continue to express gratitude for their contributions.
Students involved in the project await their cue (tarp reads "Thank you CSF! ♥,Team Mosaic")
