CHS Girls Soccer: Coronado ends Santa Margarita's season

SANTA ANA – The inability to solve a strong defensive effort from the Coronado Islanders brought the Santa Margarita girls soccer season to a disappointing end.

Abigail Callahan and Stephanie Hamilton each scored first half goals, and goalie Cory DeMarco had 13 saves to lead the Islanders to a 2-0 victory in the semifinals of the CIF Southern California Division 2 Regional Championship Wednesday afternoon at Santa Ana Stadium.

"I just played my game and my team helped me stay relax so that I could make the saves that I needed to," DeMarco said. "We knew we were playing a great team, but we know we can play with anyone and we came in hard."

After losing in last year's Division 2 regional semifinal to Beckman in overtime, the Islanders (13-6-4) will play La Jolla High in the Division 3 Regional championship match Friday night at Warren High. Santa Margarita ends the season with an overall record of 25-5-3.
