It was a beautiful morning today on Coronado, so I took a 30 minute bike ride around the perimeter of the island. Mine wasn't along the official Coronado bike path, but still a very fun loop. It included riding along Ocean Blvd towards the Hotel del Coronado, continuing down Orange (HWY 75) with the Coronado Shores on your right, crossing the street over to the Community Center, hopping on the bike path going back towards the bridge along Glorietta, hitting the trail near the golf course going under the bridge, along Tidelands Park, grabbing a snack at Coronado Ferry Landing and then back up 1st Street to Alameda and back to Ocean Blvd. You really can't go wrong biking around town or up and down the Silver Strand.

I have biked around Coronado many times. You can start in imperial beach and take the strand bike trail from 12th street all the way to the ferry landing by taking the trail that goes under the Coronado bridge. Have lunch on Coronado and bike back. this is about 24 miles round trip. Pick a day with light ocean breezes.
Or . . . you can take the Coronado Ferry (for free if you go by the 8:30 am run) and bike around the bay by going through the San Diego waterfront, National City and Chula Vista Marinas and back on the trail around the south end of the bay and back up the Strand on the trail. About 25 miles.
For all you biking enthusiasts, there is a recently formed City of Coronado Bicycle Committee which is currently working on a BMP or Bicycle Master Plan for Coronado. We have hired a wonderful consultant (KTU+A) who are helping us to formulate the plan now. We meet the 1st Thursday of the month at 3pm at the meeting room at the Police Station. You are more than welcome to attend and contribute. Wonderful things are being planned to make biking even more enjoyable and safer in Coronado. Soon there will be a community meeting to share information and get your input. This is a great opportunity to assure that Coronado is the poster child for biking and other alternative & green forms of getting around the island. Stay tuned for further developments.
