Coronado Ferry Landing Will Start Charging for Parking by March 2014

Modifications are being made to the Coronado Ferry Landing parking lots to enforce paid parking after a 30 minute period of time.  We spoke to Denise Schwab, Coronado Ferry Landing Property Manager, and she shared the following information with eCoronado.com:

Coronado Ferry Landing is installing a controlled parking system.  We anticipate a start date of not later than March 1, 2014.  There will be a 30-minute grace period.

eCoronado.com requested more information regarding pricing and the reason(s) for moving to 'paid parking' and were told that more information will be released at a later date.

I'm looking forward to the "later date"  and reading more info about it.  Guess when you go to the farmers market on Tuesday you better not linger.  I am curious to know if the move toward paid parking is because people were abusing the parking or because it's an opportunity to bring in more revenue.

Dislike.

I was there last week and played a guessing game with my family trying to decide what the concrete curb in the middle of the Ferry Landing driveway leading to Il Fornaio was for... now we know. We guessed that it was a traffic calming measure, but this is way worse!

Apparently a lot of bicyclists and joggers are using that lot as a starting point, tie ups spots for hours while biking and jogging down the Strand and back.  Customers to the restaurants and shops are having a tough time finding a spot during peak periods.  It is hoped that the bikers and joggers will park in Tidelands Park.

I fear it will just discourage locals from eating at Ferry Landing or Shopping there.(I will think twice about it) Hoping it doesn't backfire on them! They may be alienating their most consistent customers...

Those who drive a short distance on Coronado to park and take the ferry downtown will likely avoid doing so.  The result will be more miles driven.  The commuter ferry numbers will decrease.  This is the wrong direction for our goal of increasing the use of public transit.

Too bad for the people living in the area...parking on the street will be problematic at best.  I ride through that area a lot & have never seen the South lot ever "packed".  It will be interesting to see what the fee will be AND if there will be validated parking from the merchants in the Landing as well as the ferry.

I assumed that the various merchants at the F Landing would validate your parking -- with purchase -- as they've done over the past years when there are events taking place. I'm I wrong Denise?
