Coronado High School Cross Country Claim a Fall Sports CIF Banner

Saturday, November 23, 2013 the San Diego Section Cross Country Finals were held at Morley Field. The Girls Cross Country team continued the banner tradition for the Islanders. The Girls Cross Country team claimed the Division IV Championship ensuring that Coronado High School would have a banner to raise for the fall quarter 2013.

Coronado Cross Country has developed a very strong program beginning with the Coronado Middle School cross country and track programs led by Middle School coach Brian Schumeyer, Athletic Director Robert Smith.Track and field Coach George Green has devoted many, many years to the Islander Track program and it shows.

Last Saturday three Islanders placed in the top ten of the final race of 2.75 miles. Senior Rachel Steffen, Freshman Mikayla Bierschbach, and Junior Aeron Yim placed in the top three to secure the first place team overall win. On the boys side Erik Armes finished only 10 seconds behind the overall winner for the Division IV race. There are surely more Cross Country banners to come. Both the boys and girls teams won the South Coast League Championships at the middle school level! Congratulations to cross country coaches, students and boosters for the great season!
