Relay for Life is an American Cancer Society fundraiser that helps the ACS provide research, education, advocacy and services to those with cancer. Teams raise money and participate by walking around a track or course for a period of twelve or twenty-four hours. Relay for Life events are overnight events and last for 12-24 hours to signify that cancer never sleeps. Each team’s goal is to have someone on the course at all times.
Relay for Life in Coronado is Saturday August 4 to Sunday August 5, 2012. The Opening Ceremony is at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning and culminates with the 10:30 a.m. “Survivor Lap”. There’s nothing quite like being on the side of the course and cheering for those in the purple shirts, knowing they have all fought this terrible disease.
The course is lined with white paper bags that are decorated and illuminated after dark. Each “Luminaria” includes a name, photo, message or drawing by a participant or supporter of Relay for Life in memory or honor of someone who has been touched by cancer.
Anyone can participate in Relay for Life. It is an amazing experience that, in Coronado, takes place in the beautiful bayside location of Glorietta Bay Park. There will be music, fun, food and fellowship whether you are there for an hour or the entire Relay. For more information about how you can get involved, visit the Coronado Relay for Life website.
