Daylight Savings: Watch Out for Bikes & Kids!

November 2011

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Days are getting shorter and daylight savings ends soon. With children often returning from after school activities after dark, we are concerned about their safety. For motorists who may not see as well as they used to, children on bicycles and skateboard in dark clothing are very difficult to see at night.

California law requires bicyclists to have reflectors and at night an operating headlight. Reflective material on clothing and helmets do much to ensure bicyclists and skateboarders are conspicuous. Investment in good quality headlights and taillights will do much to keep your young bicyclist more visible.

When children leave in the morning, it is easy to forget the proper clothing for after school. Please help us keep our children safe by remembering to dress them appropriately!

Sincerely,

Lou Scanlon
