Tuesday night the Girls' Varisty basketball team won their first round playoff game again Preuss, 54-18. 

Kate Pederson had 11 points, 3 steals, 2 assists.  Ashtyn Hurrell had 10 points, 4 steals. Martha Byrne had 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists.  Brooke Pierson had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.  Katie Hearther had 8 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.  Jordyn Kastlunger contributed 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks.  Kyla Orth made two buckets for 4 points.  For Preuss, Nancy Luu had 10 points.

The girls have a tough gave Friday night at 7pm against San Diego's Mater Dei.

The boys team won their playoff game Wednesday night against High Tech High School.

Congratulations to both teams and best of luck in the next round.

Coronado High School Varsity Girls' Basketball will compete in their first playoff game tonight, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 in the CHS gym.  If you are a basketball fan, you are invited to COME FILL THE GYM!

During the regular season, the girls often play before the boys.  The athletes will tell you (and it's widely accepted) that the crowd mainly consists of parents and siblings, maybe a couple friends.  As the time draws closer to the start of boys' varsity games, the crowd grows to include cheerleaders, friends, classmates and family. 

During the last regular season game against Clairemont our girls' Varsity came out playing with intensity.  The gym was packed as it was Clairemont's Senior night.  The Islander girls quickly took a large lead (they ended up winning by over 30 points) but the crowd never quieted.  It was that energy--the noise, the cheering, the band, the sheer numbers, that helped fuel our girls. 

Come on Islander family--LET'S SHOW OUR GIRLS WE ARE PROUD OF THEM!

Playoffs are goverened by CIF, so the prices are not set by CHS or ISF, but a win for our teams will be worth the price of admission.

Girls' game is tonight at 7 p.m. at CHS gym vs. Preuss High School

Entry fees:  Adults $8    Seinors/Students $6

Boys' Varsity game Wednesday night, February 20 at 7pm vs. High Tech High School CV

The boys are exciting to watch and need your support too!  Put on your Islander pride and come to the gym this week for some great basketball.
