Orangeandpark.com is offering a new series of desktop wallpapers featuring bird's eye views of different areas of Coronado.

Stingray Point Miniature
STINGRAY POINT Download: 1024 x 768 | 1280 x 1024 | 1680 x 1050 | 1920 x 1080

We spent months building a scale model of the island to photograph for our wallpaper collection.

Star Park Miniature
STAR PARK Download: 1024 x 768 | 1280 x 1024 | 1680 x 1050 | 1920 x 1080

Just kidding. In reality, we used Photoshop to create the illusion that you are looking at a miniature model.

Shores Miniature
SHORES Download: 1024 x 768 | 1280 x 1024 | 1680 x 1050 | 1920 x 1080

This is achieved by selectively blurring areas of each photo to simulate the short depth of field normally associated with close-up photos of smaller subjects.

Hotel Del Miniature
HOTEL DEL Download: 1024 x 768 | 1280 x 1024 | 1680 x 1050 | 1920 x 1080

When you see this depth of field applied to a landscape photo, your brain is tricked into thinking you are looking at a miniature model! (We admittedly kept the effect on the light side—it can be deployed more vigorously.)

Hansen Beach Miniature
HANSEN BEACH Download: 1024 x 768 | 1280 x 1024 | 1680 x 1050 | 1920 x 1080

Follow the link under your favorite wallpaper photo to the closest match with your screen size/ratio. When the larger photo finishes loading, right-click the anywhere on the image (Mac: control-click) and select "Set as desktop background" (wording may vary depending on the browser you are using). Voila!

I don't understand about the blurring. It just looks like a blurred photo to me and therefore not good for wallpaper. Am I missing some tehcnical trick?

@Phil: The photos are pretty blurred, it is true, but once you have the image on your desktop in full size, the "miniaturizing effect" of the blurring may be more appreciable...

Sorry - no its not! I tried using the Hotel Del photo and there is so much detail in there, but I can't see it. The sharpness at the Del's main tower is what I would want for the whole shot.

@Phil: I have an idea: send me an email at orangeandpark@gmail.com and I will email you back a crisply-focused Hotel Del wallpaper... Be sure to include your desktop dimensions in the email (if known) so I get the size right. :)

Thats great Orange_and_Park - thanks it looks really good now.

By the way I think the blurred effect works well for e.g. the Stingray Point and Star Park shots - very artistic.
