SAN DIEGO (SURF) DOGS MUSIC VIDEO FILMED IN CORONADO

On 6 November, a music video filmed at the Coronado Ferry Landing and titled “San Diego Dogs” for the benefit of animal adoption was released for sale on i-Tunes.  The video, featuring the singing of Lia Marie Johnson, age 14, and Roxy King, age 15, was directed by Tony Perri, owner of “Surfs Up Studios.”  Mr. Perri directed and produced the documentary movie “Serotonin Rising” and music video “White Flag,” and worked as a TV anchorman.  Mr. Perri is a Coronado resident.  Lia attends Coronado High School and Roxy lives in Poway.  The music video is available at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/san-diego-dogs-california/id472982879.

The video was produced to support the America Humane Association and Helen Woodward Animal Center and can be downloaded from I-Tunes for 99 cents, a really good deal for a real good cause.  The music is combined with scenes shot at the Coronado Ferry Landing in October and at the 2011 surf dog competition held in Imperial Beach and sponsored by Lowe’s Resort in Coronado Cays. 

The music of the video is based on the recent song “California Gurls” (spoof of California girls) by Katy Perry, with Roxy and Lia singing lyrics re-written by both of them and Perri which feature words and sounds about San Diego  dogs, surfing dogs, and shelter dog adoption.  The lyrics include “Oooooh a bow wowwa ooh.”  Information and the lyrics were previously posted on e-Coronado.

In addition to Lia and Roxy, the video featured Nani and her SURFice dog, Richochet, who raises contributions by surfing, and volunteer dogs and people from the community.  All the dogs in the video are rescue dogs from shelters.

The video was actually filmed on October 23.  It was a cold day at the Ferry Landing which meant the script had to be changed and that no additional boogie boarding or surfing scenes were shot.  But they still filmed the rest of the video.

I got to play a role in the video, along with my dog, Murphee.   I pretended to adopt a dog and Murphee rode in a bicycle basket and ran with the other dogs in the opening scene.  Murphee is really adopted from a shelter.  There is also a background shot of my Mom and I building sand castles.

One thing I learned was I learned is that movie scripts are changed even while filming, depending on the weather and other factors.  Moving making is not as easy as it seems in movies or on TV.
