Coronado Island's #1 Community Website & Online Newspaper

Anyone interested in "I remember when..." about your life on the Island? Sometimes one person's thoughts spur memories for another. I think it would be great to "talk" about how blessed we've been to experience Coronado through the years.
I'll check back later to see if anyone is interested.

Candy, you have to read this from Samantha's profile:

How are you connected to Coronado?
I'm a Coronado local.

What are some things you love about Coronado? Favorite places on the island?
I love strolling along almost any Nado street and remembering someone special or a good memory. It was just a gift to grow up here and receive the nurturing care from a plethora of adult mentors (even when, at the time, I didn’t always appreciate the small town closeness).

Some of my favorite places were the homes along Cabrillo where I was raised, so many of whom opened the doors to all us ‘kids’ for bathroom use, snacks, an emergency band-aid, or just a bit of company. I remember Mrs. Kanoche’s spaghetti or Mrs. Lynch’s cookies, Barbies and bicycles, coming home ‘when the street lights came on’, walking to Crown School, buying candy from the Avenue or Lamb’s Market, Saturday afternoon movies at the Village, a new dress from the Bobbi Jean Shop, birthday party gifts from the Department Store, sailing at the yacht club, and walking along the beach rocks ‘all the way’. I cherished Sunday mornings with Mr. Sale and The Reverend Carson (I thought he was God) and later breakfast at the Mexican Village.

I’m grateful for amazing teachers, Mrs. Johnson, Moriarty, Treasner, Clark, Adair and many more, and for the friends that got me through it all (especially 4th grade math). Cheers to Girl Scouts and Bethel #160, to the Del for my first job, you know who for my first kiss and to Dr. Mashovic for saving my life.

There are so many ‘little’ remembrances’ that actually make up the bulk of my life and I feel so blessed to still be able to work here, especially with our local amazing children.

OK, I asked for "I remember when" and am just now posting my 1st note.
I remember moving here from a tiny town in Michigan when I was in the 6th grade. Mr. Neibauer (sp) really helped welcome the new kid. Lived at the El Cordova for about a month until we found a house. If you go to Miguel's, when you round the 1st corner in the courtyard, look up and you'll see the apartment where we stayed. It was magic to me then and magic to me now!

A lot of of us share this on facebook with Coronado past and Coronado Kids!!! It has been a wonderful awakening!!! I was born and raised there with wonderful parents and aunts and uncles and it went back to my Grandparents coming from Cornwall, England, but a now historic house on Park Place. So many wonderful memories, except maybe high school because I wasn't one of the popular ones, partly I'm sure due to some of the same problems a few of my other friends had. They weren't NAVY, yet we were led to believe WE were the "Outcasts" How cruel kids can be sometimes. Age and experiences have changed many of us though. It's amazing!!!!! :o)
