I am really wondering how this eyesore snuck into town when it seems almost all of us residents are against it. The design does not keep with the look of downtown Coronado at all. It has the cheap strip mall look of all the other Walgreens.

If everyone avoids shopping there, then we might actually be able to get something that the town needs and wants when it closes. We certainly do not need another drug store in this town.

Petco didn't want to go.. they were told to vacate within 30 days.. so they did.. and it has been empty ever since.  In a town like Coronado a Petco certainly seemed to fit in pretty well to this pet friendly town..  Walgreens right across from RiteAid .. really?  And the building looks like it could be Anywhere, USA.  Let's try to keep our main drag unique..

too generic Walgreens and not enough Coronado Main Street.

Come on they can come up with a better design than that. Terrible, just plain ugly. Does not fit our community.

another chain store? With the same old chain store look? How very disappointing!

Oh for heavens sake!  Anything that would clean up Orange Ave would be an improvement,  The current chain drug store has no curb appeal at all.

Okay .. this building is just down right ugly!  This would do nothing to add positively to the ambience of the downtown village area, quite the opposite. You'd think there would be SO many better options.

I guess the image of the ferry or some iconic Coronado whatnot on the facade is supposed to endear the locals ... Charming.

BTW, Brian: While the AT&T Switch building may be the "most beautiful switch building in the country" - that's not saying much and "beautiful" is not the word I would use. Yes, while the building demonstrates a corporate attempt to show some soul it accomplishes, at best, a grotesque gesture toward Spanish Revival. It isn't even functional. What's with all the benches surrounded by concrete and oversized planting boxes? If they really wanted to make an inviting public space, they should have used soft-scape similar to what the recreation center designed with water fountains for dogs and their people. What they plopped in there looks like a corporate wasteland that might be okay in an inland area that has a lot of space to fill, but not in Coronado.

Exactly, Tamara, why this new chain drugstore SHOULD make an attempt that meets Coronado standards.
