Wow, that is a lot in dog years!  About 126, right?

Aww, Hello Miss Winnie, you are adorable! I personally don't know of any other dog in Coronado who is older. I'm curious to know!

So sorry. My husband corrected me. I'm one year off. She's 18 and 4 mos.

I think the new ratio of dog years to human is 5 - so Miss Winnie would be about 90. Dachshunds top the list of "world's oldest dogs" on Wikipedia and Miss Winnie comes from a long line of long lived dachshunds.

I'm looking forward to tracking her progress into very old age on this blog and meet others who are caregivers for old dogs.

Other than an occasional treat, we don't feed her any commercial foods. She walks several blocks a day and you might have seen us strolling her around in her doggie pram.

Anyone know how to edit the title?

We just adopted a 16+ year old Cavalier King Charles from a local Coronado family whose matriarch passed. Her name is Peaches and she'll be 17 in July!:)

I am proud to have met Winnie.  I think the extended life is due to her amazing family, friends, homemade dog food and treats - plus living in CORONADO. Go Winnie Go.

Lynne - Peaches is adorable! Here's to many more happy years. She reminds me of our CKC, Miss Ivie who lived to be seventeen and a half.

Denise B - Congratulation on the MS walk! I'd like to participate next year. When your schedule permits, we should meet in the little triangle park and catch up. Pico needs some Sammy time, too! By the way, how old is Sammy?

Denise - I hope this blog will benefit senior dogs in Coronado ... a place to share our remedies and recipes for senior dog care because, as you know, it's a lifestyle!

From Eric Shackle (ericshackle@bigpond.com) in Sydney. Australia..

Miss Winnie may well be the oldest dog in Coronado, but there are many older dogs in other places.

Max, a "mixed terrier" living in New Iberia, Louisiana, is probably the oldest dog alive. He celebrated his 28th birthday on August 9. If he survives 12 more months, he'll be the oldest pooch in recorded history.

An Australian cattle dog, Bluey, worked among sheep and cattle for 20 years, and survived until November 14, 1939, when he was put down. He had lived for 29 years, five months and seven days, on a diet of kangaroos and emus. He was the world's oldest dog, a record that has never been beaten.
